Two free virtual Minimoog synthesizer instruments for Windows

December 20, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Two free virtual Minimoog synthesizer instruments for Windows

VoltKitchen has released version 2.3 of MinimogueVA and MinimogueLUXUS, two free virtual Minimoog synthesizer instruments for Windows.

Changes in MinimogueVA/MinimogueLUXUS v2.3

  • New 24dB filter and a button to switch between the old 12dB filter and the new 24dB filter. The new filter is very advanced with built-in distortion, so it will use much more CPU. The old 12dB filter did not open up completely, but now you can enjoy the bright sound like the orignal when cutoff set to max when 24 db filter is selected. All sounds in the factory bank are set to the old filter, but I hope we can upgrade the synth with some new 24dB filter sounds later. Many of the old sounds have high resonance, and I advice you to reduce resonance level when switching to the new filter.
  • Osc drive(offset) has been changed. It still has a little bit of offset just like the original, but much less than the 2.2 version.
  • 10 new sounds by Sinisa Lupis.
  • Added midi learn for bar-sync and the 16 gate off/on buttons.
  • LUXUS version has got a new layout of controls to look similar to the new controller by Mario Jurisch of Synth-project.de.

MinimogueVA and MinimogueLUXUS are available to download as freeware VST instruments for PC.

What’s new in Xhun’s Little Phatty emulation

December 14, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on What’s new in Xhun’s Little Phatty emulation

Xhun Audio is proud to present LittleOne, a faithful emulation of a new classic: the Moog Little Phatty analog synthesizer. To produce a rich and warm sound, LittleOne emulates the analog signal path of the Little Phatty and every single component of it (oscillators, filter, envelopes, LFO …), have the original frequency responses and frequency ranges. The result is an analog-sounding instrument – all in the digital domain.

Updated/Fixed/Features:

Improved Oscillators algorithm
The new bandlimited oscillators produce waveforms with a strong brilliance (improving frequencies response, specially in the 4kHz-20kHz range). This allows a better simulation of a real analogue oscillator, without digital artifacts (aliasing).

Analogue Components Emulation
One of the main (and more exciting) features of version 2.0 is the emulation of the analogue components inside the synth. Oscillators, Filters, Lfos (,…) simulates the micro-instability and imperfections of the analogue technology. This feature brings richness, genuineness and depth to the sound.

New Sound Banks
Together with an improved factory sound bank, LittleOne comes with additional presets (300+ in total) covering all styles, from classic analog to FM, to contemporary cutting-edge dance. All the patches of the original Moog Little Phatty (Tribute Edition and Stage Edition) are included.

Improved GUI and minor bug fixes
The Graphical User Interface is improved, as well as some bugs of version 1.x are fixed.

LittleOne version 2.0 full features:

# The Moog Little Phatty Physical Modeling emulation

# Analogue Components Emulation

# Two aliasing-free analog modeled oscillators with continuous selection mode ( like the original ) between Triangle, Saw, Square, Pulse

# A 4-Pole resonant Low Pass filter modeled on the classic Moog Ladder, featuring the original frequency responses, self-oscillation and overload control

# Two 4-Stage ( ADSR ) envelope generators

# Modulation LFO with the original waveforms and frequency ranges ( 0.2~500 Hz )

# Monophonic/polyphonic mode , pitch bend ranges and more – all accessible from LittleOne LED display

# 300+ ready-to-use presets from classic analog to contemporary cutting-edge dance to psychoacoustic sounds and SFX. Original Little Phatty Stage Edition and Tribute Edition patches are included.

# XSQ16M, a build-in 16-step MIDI sequencer

# GATED!, a build-in 16-step trancegate effect

# Two master effects slots with the possibility to choose between delay, reverb, tube distortion, flanger, chorus

# Full MIDI CC#s mapping (according to the original Little Phatty CC#s specs)

Moog and a violin – old meets new

December 12, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Moog and a violin – old meets new

Well one must sat that this guy goes to lengths in playing two handed/feetedly :-)

Old traditions meet new traditions: Justin from the Carolina Chocolate Drops treated Moog to an impromptu performance when he met the Taurus 3 Bass pedals backstage before their show in Asheville, NC last night. The duo of violin & Taurus 3 was moving and hopefully more artists will explore using synths like this. Thanks, Justin!

The making of an album

December 8, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on The making of an album

Joseph Raglani has shared a couple of videos covering his process towards a new album

Decided to chronicle the making of the follow up to Of Sirens Born. We’ll see if I can keep it up. I’m just in the demo stage and getting some ideas down. What you see here is all played live (well with a few sequencers). I’ve found that long hair and funny hats help with this process.
I’m playing a Dave Smith Mopho keybord with a Tetra in tow. Doepfer A-100, Synthi-R, Moog Voyager Old School (sequenced by the MFB Step64) and the Tip Top Audio Z8000 is doing some modulation sequencing. Left hand is playing the melodic part, right hand is tweaking. I only say that because it’s a little hard to see what’s going on from this angle. Recorded Dec 6th, 2010.

A couple of patches featuring my Synthi clone, A Doepfer A-100 Modular system and my first first two or three runs with the Tip Top Audio Z8000 sequencer. In the last clip, all three of the aforementioned are being triggered by an old Univox SR-55 drum machine via the Doepfer A-119. Headphones are a must here. There is a lot of V.C. panning going on.
Some of the modules featured here are the
Buchla clones –
A-149-1, A-101-2 and the Plan B Model 13.
Analogue Systems –
Rs95e, Rs95, EMS Synthi filter, Ems Trapezoid Filter, VCA and EG.
Tip Top Audio Z8000
Plan B Model 14 and plenty of multiples are functioning as substitutes for the EMS pin matrix.
The rest are standard Doepfer modules with a little bit of history behind them… (I bought them from Bill Leeb about 10 years ago)

Well here’s the answer

Moog is a trademark of Moog Music, Inc.
Electro-Harmonix Effectology, Vol.19 “How to turn your guitar into a Moog synthesizer”
By Bill Ruppert

Welcome to Electro-Harmonix’s “Effectology” series, in which we create a remarkable collection of impossible sounds using just a regular guitar and EHX effect pedals!
No keyboards, samplers or midi pickups were used.

In this episode I show how to turn a regular guitar into a Moog synthesizer!
There is a demonstration of the famous recording Switched-on Bach and Emerson Lake and Palmer’s classic synthesizer solo from the song ‘Lucky Man”.
Both records featured the epic original Moog modular synthesizer.
