Korg MS-20 tutorial: External sound processing

May 24, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Korg MS-20 tutorial: External sound processing

Background data:

I have read some posts on forums how to process external sounds thru a Korg MS 20. Yes it is very easy but some forget that you have to trigger the envelope to hear the processed sound. This can be done manually by playing the keyboard or via CV/Gate.
I decided to make a short tutorial how to process external audio thru the MS-20 playing the keyboard live. This is the easiest way to start.

In this demo the Elka Synthex plays a string sound and is controlled by MIDI.

You can also use the MS-20 Trig Out in the External Signal Processor section to trigger the envelope. You need some patch cords to achieve this. I will cover this in “Korg MS-20 tutorial: External sound processing Part 2”.

Korg MS20 – Creating a basic snare drum sound

April 7, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Korg MS20 – Creating a basic snare drum sound

“A basic snare sound made using the Korg MS-20. The trick is to use the high pass filter to add the punch/snap to the drum sound. Drum sounds are very easy to create on a MS20.
The MS20 can also create pretty decent hand clap sounds using the high pass filter, S&H and some other stuff. I will post a video later.”

KORG MS20 vs NonLinear Circuits Sequencer

February 9, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on KORG MS20 vs NonLinear Circuits Sequencer

Two Korg MS 20 synths sequenced by a NonLinear Sequencer .
Left Korg sequenced by bindubba3 – 16 stage with gate outputs for each stage.
One clock controls horizontal travel, the other controls vertical travel.

Right Korg sequenced by Bindubba1 – 4 stage sequencer with 16 control voltage outputs (CV) and 8 gate outputs that are divisions of the input clock signal from/1 to /128.

The sequencers use a 1V/octave CV and a S-trigger gate.
Korgs use Hz/V and a S-trigger gate.
Seems to work fine though.

Nice demo featuring the Korg MS-20 and an Empress VM Superdelay

January 8, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Nice demo featuring the Korg MS-20 and an Empress VM Superdelay

The superdelay is on the “tape” setting the entire time. No other effects are applied. The Vintage Modified superdelay is based on a superdelay with some modifications to the tape modes. The Vintage setting  has some added modulation and the Old mode has had some high end rolled off a bit with the same modulation and some grit added to reproduce the sound of worn heads and dirty tape on your tape delay. The Vintage Modified Superdelay still has all the rest of the features and delays as the original.

Hardware:
Korg MS-20
Empress Effects Vintage Modified Superdelay
