Plogue has released version 1.0.0.3 of Chipsounds, a virtual chipsound synthesizer plug-in which turns your host into a classic video game console, vintage 8bit home computer and even an 80’s arcade.
Plogue chipsounds authentically emulates more than eight vintage 8bit-era sound chips (on top of their variants), down to their smallest idiosyncrasies.
Changes in Chipsounds v1.0.0.3
- New presets (around 300 total).
- VST/AU parameters (only on first slots).
- MIDI Out in VSTi mode (AU later).
- Small skin installed but turned off by default (need to choose GUI_small in AriaSetup.xml).
- Transpose setting for each slot.
- MOS TED chip added (not worth a huge mention).
- Various bug fixes.

Soundscaper II – free VST effect
Homegrown Sounds has released SoundScaper II, a free effect plug-in for Windows and Mac.
SoundScaper is versatile and great for comb effects, reverbs and endless delays. It is has been included in most of my synths over the last couple of years.
There are only a few presets at the moment, please feel free to send me some if you come up with any good ones.
There are lots of randomizers as usual to make using SoundScaper a fun and creative experience! It is not advisable to use the plug in any active projects yet as it may change before official release, but I’d love to hear some feedback especially from Mac users.
SoundScaper II beta is available as a freeware VST effect plug-in for PC and Mac (Intel).

This ‘Performer Edition’ is a simplified version of our Symptohm:Melohman powersynth, especially made for live use – but being also handy at the studio. The core of the synth, its oscillators and all the filters are there: it’s the same audio engine of the ‘normal’ version. The only difference is that they’re all already programmed/fixed for each one of the (up to 1200!) patches from Symptohm’s sound library, the result being a simple and straight forward interface.
