Livid Sampler Tutorial
Livid Sampler 03 is a basic sampling application designed to work with Livid Controllers. This is a final update to the first release of Livid Sampler, an open-source Max/MSP patch, application, and VST plugin. This is “final,” because it was done in Cycling 74’s Max 4.6 and pluggo, which is no longer sold or supported, and Sampler is also going to evolve into something more sophisticated.
The real reason for this release is to put a fun and simple sampler into the hands of Livid customers that is designed to work instantly with your controller, and hope it sparks some discussion and requests on what it might do in the future. There are a minimum of controls and settings, letting you concentrate on playing, rather than making minute changes. We are planning to release some software using this sampler as the foundation, and we’d love to hear what you would like to do with it, what more you want from it, as well as test the playback mechanism for stability and usefulness. As you think about what you might want to see, keep in mind that we don’t intend for this to replace or compete with software that you already use. We do intend to make a software package that maximizes interactivity, quick production, and musical focus on our controllers and others.
A simple mix using Livid Sampler and the block. I loaded a few samples and figured something out. Samples are from Arthur Lee, Bobby Humphries, Lalo Schifrin, Yellow Magic Orchestra, and a couple other loops I made.

Does Ableton Live offer highest possible sound quality on default ? Nope. Settings are suited better for live performance rather than studio usage. Presented video (again by Certified Ableton Trainer – DJ Vespers) shows a few helpful tricks about setting highest possible sound quality.

Mid-Side Processing for Great Masters

When it comes to mastering, one of the hottest things right now is a technique known as “mid-side processing.” As a basic description, mid-side processing uses phase cancellation tricks to isolate the mono information in a mix (bass, vocal, kick drum) from the stereo items (guitars, keys, effects) and then lets you master them separately and recombine them for a very nice sounding master.

Control voltage on the Moog

Seeing the Slim Phatty retaining CV (control voltage) inputs I wondered how well line level voltage would work as a control source. The answer:

This is a tutorial/demo on how I pulled this off and everything you need to know! The Moog (notes) are controlled via the MPK25 but the filter and pitch modulation is via the CV inputs.
Yes – Line level (analog) signal has voltage. I learned some of these tricks about a year ago – once thinking CV was far out and not so easy to gain control of – wrong.
The modulation of the SF can be controlled with amazing accuracy and synchronization using an application like Ableton. The possibilities are endless – I am still trying to understand where I would like to go with this idea. For now – you have the basic knowledge – please post back ideas and break throughs! Thx.
