New timbres from analog sequencer
Using analog sequencers in a modular synth you can create some interesting unique timbres. You need to clock the sequencer really fast with a VCO, since there are 8 steps in this particular sequencer it needs to run 8 times as fast as the note you want to play. Some analog sequencers can run faster than others, yielding higher pitched notes. The highest notes you hear in this example is the highest the synthesizers.com Q119 sequencer can play. By changing the voltage of the individual steps you change the timbre of the sound. And since there’s three channels you can use the two others to control other things, like a filter maybe?

How to add a touch screen to your synth using iPad
This video, via mvpadrini, demonstrates how you can use the $2.99 app S1MidiTrigger on an iPad to add a touchscreen to your synthesizer.
S1MidiTrigger is a new app for iOS which works with the Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer. You can create your own MIDI layouts using the layout menu and use the multi-touch interface to control any MIDI device.
Here, S1MidiTrigger on the iPad is connected, via a MIDI Mobilizer to a Korg microX synthesizer.

Parallel Processing in Reason

The War of the Roses, the Cold War, or the Pepsi/Coke War… all these have come before us but we are currently locked in a much tougher battle known as “The Loudness War.” Producers everywhere are fighting with everything they have to out-blast each other on the radio, in clubs, and iPods earbuds around the world.
When you want to “go nuclear” in the loudness war, your best weapon of choice will be something known as parallel processing. It adds punch, bass, or crunch to your tracks while maintaining audio fidelity at the same time. This week I’ll show you how to do parallel processing in Reason/Record.
SoftStep tutorial – multi-touch controller
Keith McMillen Instruments announced earlier in the week the release of SoftStep, the first universal multi-touch USB/MIDI foot controller.
In this official video, KMI support tech Sarah Howe takes you on a quick tour of the technical aspects of the SoftStep.
Weighing in at just over a pound and fitting into most laptop and guitar cases, SoftStep has ten sensor keys, which go beyond the simple on and off commands by supporting five degrees of motion.
