Client’s uniform image is always inspiring 
and a departure from the norm, maybe a bit too obvious for the sensibilites of some who think they’re exploiting their style. Take this picture for example, the trio are obviously pushing it, but is it done in an ironic way? or is it mere titilation?
Anyhow, S’Express mainman Mark Moore and top remixer ‘Kinky’ Roland Faber have turned in a very disco-danceable housey remix that ticks all the boxes.

Midi – thinking outside the box
Most likely the perfect complement for electronic musicians who wants to experiement a lot.
The keyboard of the Axis is a honeycomb-like grid of hexagonal buttons. The MIDI note numbers these buttons produce are not individually programmable: The layout is fixed. Since it’s not an ideal layout for all purposes, the lack of programmability may limit the unit’s appeal. The range of the keyboard is 64 notes — a bit more than a standard five-octave keyboard. There’s a global transpose parameter, but no dedicated octave shift buttons.
There are 192 key buttons in total, which means that three different buttons can play each note. This gives you lots of ways to finger any given chord or pattern. It also allows the Axis to have an isometric layout, which is a fancy way of saying that you can play in all 12 keys using identical fingerings. The buttons are about the size of an average fingertip, with beveled edges. The beveling makes it a bit easier to avoid playing wrong notes than on the white keys of a standard keyboard, because you get a bit of tactile feedback when your fingers drift out of position. The buttons sense velocity, but not aftertouch. The key dip is shallow: about two millimeters, as opposed to the ten millimeters that typical piano-type keys travel downwards.

Dopplereffekt are one of the strangest and most mysterious units of the contemporary electronic music scene. There are no interviews and hardly any live appearances. Nobody really knows who they are, their releases have so far only been available on limited vinyl on Dataphysix/Detroit. The composers hide behind strange German pseudonyms whereas the song titles and lyrics are in English and make up a strange mixture of scientific, sexually explicit and political allusions.
Dopplereffekt’s music is also highly eclectic and unusual. Even if at first sight the forefathers Kraftwerk seem to be more than present Dopplereffekt have developed a very own and highly influential sound aesthetic, without which the current electro-hype seems to be unthinkable.
Dopplereffekt also always went an unusual path with their stylish anti-style in cover artwork, which has always been surprisingly and provocatively plain.
The brain behind this mythical group is scientist Heinrich Mueller (Drexciya, Arpanet, Japanese Telecom, der Zyklus etc). They had a great impact on the electro clash sound around 2000 and tracks like Plastiphilia (listen) and Rocket Scientist (listen) are strong soundtracks to this era. What few people know is that the tracks were produced already 5 years earlier, in Detroit…
Today their music is more experimental but at the same time also more daring, mature and interesting. The experimental album Linear Accelerator, released on International Deejay Gigolo was this year followed by their latest release, Calabi Yau Space. This Rephlex release is a beautiful melodic and rhythmic journey in to the world of theoretical physics and string theory (listen).
Great melody, rhythm and harmony begins with sound itself and it is on this level that Dopplereffekt is concentrating. This is ’Techno’ in the sense that the term was originally intended.

Ableton has released Live 7.0.2, a free update for registered users. You can download the update from http://www.ableton.com/latest_versions or by using the ‘Check for updates…’ command from Live’s help menu.
What’s in Live 7.0.2? A large number of updates and an even larger number of fixes for Live 7 , Sampler, Operator, Analog, Tension, and Electric.
Below is a list of highlights and a link to the full change log.
Updates:
- Dropping instruments onto tracks, pads or chains replaces the complete device chain and not only the previous instrument. To replace the instrument only, you can drag it over the previous instrument.
- The inline Rack mixer provides an “Extract chains” command via its context menu.
- In the mixer, chains are now treated as any other track concerning solo. That way soloing a chain in the Session mixer mutes every track except the one containing the Rack.
- Smaller button for automation lanes.
- Include the track index only in automatic names, but not in user names (also not in the routing choosers).
- Support for Propellerheads Recycle 1 files (.rcy).
- Support for the following control surfaces:Faderfox LV1, LX1, LV2, LX2, LC2 & LD2; Korg ZERO8; Akai MPD32.

Bug Fixes:
- The current velocity value when creating a MIDI note is kept globally. Changing the velocity of the MIDI keyboard also updates the current velocity value.
- Replacing a Drum Rack could set Macro values to the values of the Macros from the previous Rack.
- MIDI controller support for Drum Racks would not work properly when loading a Live set containing a Drum Rack.
- Resizing of Arrangement tracks would not always work properly.
- Live could crash when selecting a folder below the system VST folder as the custom VST folder.
- Freezing of tracks containing Analog, Electric or Tension would not work properly.
- Dragging nested instruments which have associated automation lanes into a new track would not remove the lanes from the previous track.
- Changing the plug-in buffer size could result in incorrect delay compensation.
