Deluxe digi-pack from Foxx
The first 1500 copies of the John Foxx and The Maths release “Interplay” will be housed in a special limited edition deluxe digi-pack. This will include the full lyrics, together with a thorough breakdown of all of analogue synthesizer equipment which was used to create the album. This digi-pack will open out into a mathematical sign, and will feature a number of colour images and graphics, all of which have been designed by graphic artist Jonathan Barnbrook (including David Bowie’s 2002 album “Heathen” which featured the debut for his ‘Priori’ typeface).
John Foxx and The Maths is the name given to the work written and produced by John Foxx and Benge. Their first collaboration was the digital single “Destination”/”September Town”). These songs were the first taste of the album they recorded at Play Studios in Shoreditch, London. The album would first be released in 2010.

ExpressionPad – midi/synth controller for the iPad
Mugician developer Rob Fielding created this demo video for ExpressionPad – a new kind of midi/synth controller for the iPad. Continuous multi-touch support means you can control pitch bend, dynamics, and modulation with each touch, even as you change notes.

Yamaha Karma 3.0
KARMA Motif debuts the new KARMA 3.0 technology with a host of new features, including eight-track design (six KARMA Modules and two Keyboard Layers) per Performance, per-track Volume and Mute stored in each of the 32 Scenes and the ability to individually adjust the mix of all parts in each Scene.
“This exciting new collaboration brings the power of KARMA to a completely new user base using the great sounds and features of the Yamaha Motif series,” said Kay.
KARMA Motif’s Performances use the Motif’s Song/Mixing mode, where each of the 64 songs is a complete KARMA algorithmic music groove with a left hand and right hand zone for controlling KARMA and soloing on top of it. The Motif’s arps are also integrated in many performances as additional elements that can be added via the 16 Chord Triggers. While in Song Mode, players are just one step away from recording their KARMA-created musical performances into the Motif’s sequencer, or the output can be routed to any DAW for external sequencing. Furthermore, a KARMA Performance can call up any Motif Voice, Performance, Song, Pattern, or Master slot when loading, so that KARMA can be used in any of the Motif’s modes.
Billie Ray Martin being remixed by Vince Clarke
Out digitally on the 28th of February including a full package with remixes is the newest Billie Ray Martin single “Sweet suburban disco”. And it’s a bomb! Digitally released on Disco Activisto Records, the single is the follow-up to Billie Ray Martin’s 2008 “Undisco Me”. “Reinventing Italo Disco was the goal, but with a unique sound,” is what describes the single the best according to the former Electribe 101 frontwoman. The track was produced by Billie and co-producer Mike Vamp of Maertini Broes.
Included in the remix list we find noone else but Yazoo maestro Vince Clarke. Also included are remixes by Horse Meat Disco’s Severino, Luke Solomon and Ray Grant. This is the first in a string of releases for Billie Ray Martin in 2011, which will include a collaboration with darlings of the underground Hard Ton and the album by The Opiates.
You can get a radio edit of the song at www.media-app.com/en/lp/billieraymartin02 .

Reason tutorials: Subtractor Filters and Envelopes
In the second installment of my “Synth School” series I’ll be staying on the Subtractor synth but looking at the Filter sections, Amp Envelope, Filter Envelope, and Mod Envelope sections. The masters of synth production are masters of these tools. Something as simple as a Low Pass filter when paired with the right chord progression can lift the entire club crowd into a frenzy. The proper Amp Envelope can bring out the vibe in your song. These are powerful tools to conveying and even evoking strong emotion from what sometimes are rather sterile starting melodies or chords.
As always, I encourage you to play around with them on your own to get a feel for how they behave and interact with each other but today I’ll walk you through each slider and button and show you a little of my own experimentation.
