Featuring the Harrison Mixbus
Harrison, the manufacturer of world-class analog and digital consoles, is proud to announce Mixbus: a Digital Audio Workstation for Mac OS X.
Mixbus™ is a full-featured Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) with “True Analog Mixing”™: a combination of Harrison’s world-renowned sound and features in a knob-per-function interface. Mixbus™ provides a solution for engineers and mixers who need a recorder, editor and mixing system with world-class sound and features.
Traditional DAW mixers were designed by companies with no pedigree in music mixing, and they suffer from well-known flaws. Harrison eliminated these flaws in Mixbus by completely replacing the DAW’s internal mixing engine and applying proprietary True Analog processing. Harrison consoles are known for their great-sounding EQ, filters, dynamics, and bus summing on every track. Now Mixbus offers every engineer a real Harrison music console “in the box”. With Mixbus’s logical knob-per-function interface, the user works with the fluidity of a traditional analog recording studio while retaining the convenience of a DAW. Mixbus enables the user to record, edit, and mix a musical performance “in the box” but get a sound that rivals the golden age of album recordings.
Mixbus Features:
- Straightforward “knob per function” mixer layout based on Harrison’s renowned 32-series and MR-series music consoles.
- Precision DSP algorithms for EQ, Filter, Compression, Analog Tape Saturation, and Summing based on Harrison’s world-renowned large format analog and digital mixing consoles.
- Unlimited stereo or mono input channels (based on available CPU power) featuring High-pass Filter, EQ, Compression, and 4 Mix Bus sends on every channel.
- 4 Stereo Mix Buses (can be used for groups or auxes) featuring Tone controls, Compression, Sidechaining, and Analog Tape Saturation.
- Stereo Master Bus that features Tone controls, Analog Tape Saturation, K-meter, and Limiting to help you make polished mixes.
- Plugin delay compensation to support effects such as parallel compression.
- Comprehensive “at-a-glance” metering with peak, peak hold, and compressor gain reduction visible on every track and bus.
- Extensive DAW features via the Ardour Digital Audio Workstation.
- Supports AudioUnit plugins and any CoreAudio interface.
Vince Clarke is back with his 5th episode
The fifth webisode in Vince Clarke’s increasingly irreverent series of ‘Analogue Monologues’ on online now for your viewing pleasure. Dedicated to the Syrinx this is a video that will appeal to you who like vintage synths or just music history in general. Here´s the link check it out!
The Analogue Monologues is a new series of mini video documentaries. In each webisode Vince talks about one his analogue synths and explains where the on/off switch is. This series proves, once and for all, that he really doesn’t know much about anything (a must see!).

Intellijel μscale – quantized symmetry
The μscale module is a cv quantizer and musical interval generator. In this simple patch I am using four VCO’s. Cwejman VCO-2RM, VM-1,harvestman piston honda, and hertz donut. Everything is being CV sequenced by the output of the μscale. Clocked from one mini ELF LFO to a Doepfer 160, 161 then out to a-151 quad sequential switch controlling the MakeNoise Brains, and two pressure points doing long slow sequences back into the CV and Shift input on the Intellijel μscale. The drums are coming from the cwejman BLD and NS-04 for the white noise snare, and high hats. Effects used TipTop Z5000, Z-DSP, and Doepfer A-187

Audio-visual interpretation of ones life
Introspectre is a simplistic audio-visual interpretation of ones life, with all its ups and downs and unpredictable or uncotrolable events, where every dot represents a memory, a path or a choice that surcomes us each and every moment of our being, which ultimately defines us, and makes us who we are and will be. Deciding our fate exactly as it is from infinite possibilities which will eventually lead us to nothing more than one specific ending.
Video was intended to provoke a relaxed retrospective of ones memories and induce a peacefull state of mind.

Introducing the BLARP synth
A quick video of a new build “BLARP” a small portable perfboard based synth instrument built mainly using CMOS 4000 series IC’s.
“For the final time, for those into CMOS/Lunetta etc, the final contents are;
2 x 4015 giving 4 x 4 bit shift registers
1 x 4040 divider
1 x 40106 providing 6 x Oscs (these are pretty wide range and go from audio rates down to really low freq)
1x 4070 giving 4 x XOR
1x 4070 set up as an XOR chain
1 x 4093 giving 4 x Gateable oscs
3 x AREGVCA (Attack Release Envelope generator and Voltage controlled Amplifier)
1 x 4069 giving 2 x triangle LFO
1 x 4046 as VCO
1 x 4011 Pseudo ring modulator
1 x passive LP filter with LDR control
2 x 3 input passive mixer
4 input resistance mixer with diode summing
Power output rails
Small kludge area
Breadboard”
Synth.nl DIY Drum Module 2011
Last year I build a drum module based on schematics from the ‘Electronic Drum Cookbook’ by Thomas Henry. I build it on breadboard but never got around to test it yet. Yesterday someone was filming my studio here so I couldn’t work on my main desk for a while and decided to give the module a go. I hooked it up to my sequencers in the modular setup and got to test them in the process as well. We took some shots of this as well and last night I decided to make a little video from it. The noise coming from it is not spectacular but it was just a proof of concept. I made this video in Sony Vegas and that was also a test run for me. I plan to make more video’s in the future for you to enjoy. The music on this video is from a track called ‘Mercury’ that a made for a sampler CD last year. You can listen to the whole track on my website. Look for the SchallPlatte 12 sampler CD.
Paulstretch has become even more stretchie
Developer Paul Nasca has released an updated version of Paul’s Extreme Sound Stretch, or Paulstretch, a program for stretching audio.
It is suitable for extreme sound stretching of audio and for applying special effects by “spectral smoothing” the sounds. It can transform any sound/music to a texture.
Version 2.1 is even more extreme and stretchier, and it can stretch your audio file up to one quintillion times ( 10^18 x ).
New in Paulstretch 2.1:
- Added loading/saving parameters.
- Added Linux Jack support.
- Added “Symmetric” mode of Binaural Beats.
- Support for longer stretches – for the really patient ones – up to one quintillion times ( 10^18 x ).
- Fixed a bug which produced infinite loop at the end of some mp3 files (at playing or render).
- Fixed a bug in the mp3 reader.
- Other minor additions.
Paulstretch is open source software released under a General Public License (GPL2).
A Windows binary is available to download at Nasca’s site. The Mac version is maintained separately, here.
