A room full of priceless synthesizers
More music on umop.com! Background music: “O Face” by Parallax.
Get a look inside Analog Heaven Northeast 2011, an annual meetup for synth enthusiasts on the East Coast. Every year we bring a selection of irreplaceable electronic gewgaws from our respective music studios (you can spot my Customsynth Rolands in there somewhere) for each other to admire. Great turnout this year! We even had a visit from the God of Catsynth, apparently.
New universal echo delay unit with hold function
WOK has released Echo Freeze Unit EFU-1, a universal echo delay unit with hold function for Windows.
“EFU-1 is more than another delay plugin. Besides all the basic functions (host sync or milliseconds, digital/tape/analog sound, modulation) it features a distinctive freeze function; like some famous hardware delay units, the delay buffer can act like a sampler. Up to 4/1 bars of input signal can be recorded (or lets better say: frozen) and continously played back at a selectable speed – even reverse.
But EFU-1 is more flexible than hardware devices: while a frozen audio segment is played back, the delay unit remains useable – even at a different delay time / sync divider! Also to hold and freeze a signal it is possible to first choose ‘record’ and then send audio to the plugin, or you continously play thru the delay and if the ‘last loop’ was interesting, you hit ‘Record’ to freeze it!
And while the recorded phrase is played back – even reverse, you may continue to play along with it thru the delay at a different time setting. By the way: feedback can be cranked up until nearly endless, and in millisecond mode, the delay time can be changed smoothly from many seconds to very short – producing these famous dub sounds!”

New Atari Teenage Riot mini album “Digital hardcore”
Out on May 11th, in Japan, is the Atari Teenage Riot mini album “Digital hardcore”. Atari Teenage Riot got together with the Japanese band 9mm Parabellum Bullet who compiled a mini album with their favorite Atari Teenage Riot songs (which along the road they also digitally remastered). The 6 tracks included on this fine release are “Digital Hardcore”, “Activate!”, “Speed”, “Too Dead For Me”, “Midijunkies” and “Get Up While You Can”.
9mm Parabellum Bullet is a Japanese rock band formed in March 2004 from Yokohama, consisting of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Takuro Sugawara, guitarist and backing vocalist Yoshimitsu Taki, bassist Kazuhiko Nakamura, and drummer Chihiro Kamijo (who actually also came up with the band’s name). Piano pieces included in some songs are performed by Taki, while the characteristic shouts are provided by Nakamura.
The band signed with Reverb Records (under the under_bar record label) and released two early mini-albums, “Gjallarhorn” in 2005 and “Phantomime” in 2006. 2007 saw the band signed to EMI Music Japan. 4 full albums followed; 3 if you don’t count the soon to be released “Movement” CD that is.

Buchla 259e Mod Oscillator Exploration
Testing what the Mod oscillator sounds like, raw and modulated, through the 292e in filter mode, VCA mode and both. Modulation proved to be quite hard but I liked the sound of the whole thing and as usual, there are gems to be found in there!
Ghazala Thereglyph
Radio interference, traditionally a problem in audio, can be used to our advantage. By means of the Thereglyph instrument I would like to introduce to circuit-bending a concept I call radiopool.
While Leon’s Theremin looks to onboard RF generation and sounds the same played anywhere, immersing a radiopool instrument to various depths within the RF field (the radiopool) yields changing results… similar to differing the length of the air column within a flute.
Here I’m playing the Thereglyph within the radiopool of a plasma globe – sometimes touched, sometimes not. For more info on this instrument and building one yourself, check-out my flickr gallery:

PreSonus Studio One – Overview
Artists of all levels, from beginner to seasoned professional, will find Studio One a serious alternative to the intimidating, bloated offerings currently considered the standards. It’s a groundbreaking music creation and production application for Mac OS X and Windows XP/Vista/7 that makes audio recording, MIDI sequencing, and audio mastering ridiculously simple right out of the box.Studio One changes the rules of the game with fresh code, innovative drag-and-drop MIDI mapping and plug-in management, auto-configuration with PreSonus hardware, insanely good audio quality, unlimited tracks and plug-ins per track, and a powerful, inventive Start page.
And although Studio One Pro hit the scene just a year and a half ago, we’ve already added even still more pro chops with Version 1.6. From tracking to mixing to mastering and distribution, it’s the creative environment built for intuitive use, speed, and efficiency–and yet it’s robust enough for the most complex productions.
80+ v1.5/1.6 enhancements but still uncluttered and simple to use.

The new banned video from Malakwa
MAKE UP YOUR RULES (MALAKWA) by crockbill
The newest Malakwa video “Make up pour rules”, which received quite some praise from the French and Anglo-Saxon press, has had a not so pleasant encounter with the German censorship rules. German magazines have refused using the video because it contained too much sex and violence. According to Alfa Matrix, and we can only agree with them, the censorship is incomprehensible.
“Make up pour rules” is taken from the band’s recently released “Street Preacher” album, out now on iTunes (direct link).
