Revolution-808 drum machine sample library
Sounds Outside the Lines has released Revolution-808, a drum machine sample library featuring the sounds of the Roland TR-808.
Although production of the TR-808 stopped in 1983, and only 12,000 were ever produced, by the time Hip-hop had reached popularity a few short years later the 808 – and especially it’s bass drum – became the defining sound of the genre.
The TR-808 is now considered to be the most recorded electronic drum machine of the last 30 years and is still used on countless songs and productions today. From classic R&B and Hip-Hop to Rock and Pop music the TR-808 has been used by artists ranging from Marvin Gaye and Tupac to Pink and Phoenix.
Revolution-808 features
- Intuitive user interface that mimics that actual hardware (Kontakt format).

Revolution-808 is available to purchase for $70 CAD. A sample pack version (no sampler patches) is $40 CAD, and a LE version (16-bit/44kHz) is available at $30 CAD. A bundle with Revolution-909 is also available, and a free Revolution-808 demo pack can be downloaded from the product page.
Introduced in 1980 by a popular japanese manufacturer of electronic instruments, the TR-808 was one of the first fully programmable drum machines that featured a sequencer and completely analog generated sounds. Originally intended as a way for musicians to provide rhythm tracks to home demos, the TR-808 was far from the marketing success it was hope to be when launched. Due to it’s analog circuitry it couldn’t compete against the realism of digital drum machines of the time and was seen by many as inferior. Even by the standards of other now vintage drum machines the TR-808 contains no standard MIDI support and all programming had to be done with the internal 16-step sequencer. What was seen as a limitation in the early eighties is now thought of as the TR-808′s greatest strength. The fact that it is a fully analog drum machine means their is a character and depth to the sound which, unlike digital drum machines, evolves as the machine is played and has an unmistakable low end punch and snap

Demo featuring the Electra EP-501 Sampler Delay. In Logic I’m using a preset beat from Ultrabeat. The EP-501 is being controlled by a MIDI-to-CV converter. Ultrabeat is being fed into the EP-501 which is sampling the beat. The pitch and gate of the EP-501 is coming from a MIDI track in Logic. The EP-501 takes a sample each time it receives a gate signal and loops it until the next gate signal.

This is my answer for an Ultra Simple Synth voice for your Baby 10 or other sequencer build. It’s designed to be EASY to build and uses the absolute minimum of parts for its functions. It was a response to so many people building Baby 10’s and using them to make terrible sounds with 555 circuits. 
You know who you are.
This will make music/noise/sound with anything that outputs a CV (Control Voltage) (1 to 5 volts or so) and Gate or Trigger of a couple volts – for example the SympleSeq DIY sequencer kit. You could even plug your vintage analog synth keyboard or Ribbon controller into it if you want – but don’t expect 1 volt per Octave. This IS a very crude VCO, VCF and VCA approximation on one small PCB with about $15 worth of parts (much less if you shop smart)
Top two knobs are Filter cut off and Filter Res, second two are Attack / Decay, Red knob is VCO 2 pitch, and the switch chooses VCO1, VCO2, or Both
This is recorded direct into the computer – no processing.
Accelerator Chord Sequencing
Background information:
This board is amazing. We started digging into the sequencer functions and there is just so much this beauty can do.
One feature we really like is being able to hold a sequencer step pot and enter a note in. In fact you can enter whole chords into the sequencer memory virtually instantaneously. Just push and hold the desired step’s knob and play the note or chord. Nice!
About the Radikal:
Recent advances in DSP performance and the designer’s relentless perfectionism in the development of sound synthesis algorithms have taken things up yet another level. The result is this brand new polyphonic instrument sporting a sound quality never heard before from digital synthesizers.
Each voice consists of three oscillators, two multimode filters, 6 envelope generators, three voice LFOs and one section LFO. Phasemodulation, time linearity modulation, oscillator synchronisation, ringmodulation, sweepable waveforms and a unique modulation and audio matrix allow for a much bigger spectrum fexibility than the analog subtractive synthesizer counterpart. An additional noise source with independent multimode filtering and variable signal routing has been added for more sonic flexibility. A three band full parametric EQ per voice is a perfect addition to the engine to place that instrument right into the mix. The Accelerator is perfectly prepared for Live performances. A lot of synthesizers nowadays do not offer direct patch selection anymore. Instead of using direct access push buttons one has to dial in the desired patch and press enter. The Accelerator makes sound selection instantly available at your fingertips with dedicated patch select buttons. Additionally the unique program chain feature allows for programming a chain of programs that selects the correct patch automatically for you. Another stunning new feature is the the built in acceleration sensor. Movements of the keyboard are converted into modulation data. This brilliant addition allows for controlling parameters like pitch, the filter frequency or modulation depths by lifting up or shaking the keyboard.
How about step sequencers and arpeggiators? The Accelerator would certainly not be a Radikal Technologies synthesizer if the designers had not integrated some sequencing goodies. You can enter some notes into the step sequencer, transpose the sequences with the left hand while performing a solo at the upper end of the split keyboard. Piece of cake! The powerfully warm and crispy sound of this new flagship synthesizer is destined to become the centerpiece of any keyboard setup. For anyone wishing to expand the Accelerators sonic power even more additional voices with up to 2 DSP expansion modules are available. The DSP expansions not only add extra polyphony to the Accelerator, they will also allow the use up to eight independent synthesizer sounds at a time with the integrated multimode feature.

New synth for Rhythm Studio
New instruments and effects are beginning to appear for the Rhythm Studio for iPad, here’s a snap shot of a new synth they are launching:
“Here is the first synth we are adding to Rhythm Studio. The first of many. It is a subtractive synth with design inspired by the EDP WASP and Korg Monotribe. It will have a ribbon style keyboard. The oscillator produces three waveforms simultaneously, along with noise. The controls were kept as simple as possible while still giving you loads of sonic possibilities.
Look out for the Hornet in the first major update of Rhythm Studio (coming soon).

The Syntheshredder
What is The Syntheshredder?
The Syntheshredder is an interactive installation utilizing live sound and performance. It’s a 20ft diameter skate bowl that will house sensors embedded under the surface. These will then be routed to a series of hardware instruments as well as custom software that will effectively turn the ramp into a versatile musical instrument. By transforming the skater into the musician, the Syntheshredder will have the potential to generate sounds and layered compositions that I believe will be quite powerful and compelling. Along with several musicians and artists, we will produce several tracks which will be pressed onto a limited edition run of 12″ vinyl records.
