The keyboard I’m using is IK Multimedia’s iRig keyboard.
It plugs directly into my iOS devices and does not need additional power or a midi interface! Also I used the awesome Looptastic app by Soundtrends for some backing track help.

Hadron – new particle synthesizer plug-in

November 16, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Hadron – new particle synthesizer plug-in

Partikkel Audio has introduced plug-in versions of its Hadron particle synthesizer, previously released for Max for Live.

The Hadron plugin is your ultimate granular synthesis tool. In fact it is such a complete implementation of granular synthesis we’ve renamed the technique to particle synthesis. The plugin is of course free and open source.

For your convenience, we’ve made a preset system allowing you to quickly get started making music with it. All presets have selected “expression controls” to allow creativity and flexibility, and you can morph between presets for ultimate creativity. The plugin comes with a basic set of presets, and you can buy additional preset packs to expand your sonic palette. This kind of presets is called “states” in Hadron.

Hadron can be used as a synthesizer or an audio effect. It can also seamlessly morph between different sound processing methods, so you can make the plugin gradually change from synthesizer to audio processing mode. This is all part of the state morphing system, accessible via the big 2D joystick control.

You can also use live sampling as a sound source for manipulation with Hadron, as well as audio files and live audio input.

Hadron for Windows and Mac is a free download. Expansion packs are available to purchase for 29 EUR.

The history of synthmate UI

November 16, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on The history of synthmate UI

“I finally grabbed all my small screen casts i made of synthmate as i developed it. It begins with the original concept, inspired by and using Matt Gemmell’s multi-touch demo (mattgemmell.com/2010/05/09/ipad-multi-touch/). It then moves on to the control panels and initial look and feel. Later, there are some different visual ideas i played with before arriving at the final look.”

Another sneak peek of a new soft synth

November 5, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Another sneak peek of a new soft synth

Promising sounds from a new virtyal synth in the making, details below:

“Here is another sneak peek of sounds from the project I am working on. I added some reverb, but otherwise all the sides are from the synth, which was receiving a 3 note loop from Ableton Live. Everything you hear is just three long notes, one after the other. Arppegios were done within the synth.

Would you like to own a synth that can produce sounds like this?”

Using Absynth to Morph Sound Waves

October 30, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Using Absynth to Morph Sound Waves

In this video tutorial sound design course designer/instructor Evan Sutton,  explores the sonic capabilities of “morphing waves” in Native Instruments’ Absynth software.
“Evan Sutton is one of Dubspot’s esteemed instructors by day and a sonic alchemist by night with his Astrolith (Space is the Place) music project which employs wobbling, funky bass lines under pitch-modulated vocals and synths. In this new video, Sutton shares his creative process of “adding a counterpoint” to his signature wobble using Native Instruments’ Absynth instrument. “At the core of this sound is the morphing wave. This is a really cool feature that Absynth has, and one of the only places where additive synthesis is used in Native Instruments’ Komplete (aside from Reaktor library instruments),” explains Sutton. In this tutorial he uses Logic as a DAW, but also explains that the process for using Absynth is exactly the same if you use Ableton or another DAW.”
