Steinberg revives Model E and VB-1 as free downloads
Throughout the long history of Steinberg, many products have come and gone, many have been superseded by new variants and others have been dropped completely. Once in a while, however, some of our developers like to dig up one of these long forgotten gems and polish it ready for current operating systems.
As these revived products remain discontinued, their updates are not officially supported. Updates for discontinued products are sporadic as these are voluntarily provided by our engineers in their free time.
Today, Steinberg would like to share with you the following:
Model E — classic analog synth with ultra-low CPU load
VB-1 — virtual bass emulation with selectable pick position
Nebula Space Reverb VST from Minimal System Instruments
Minimal System Instruments has released Nebula (Space Reverb), a VST plug-in for Windows:
Reverb is one of the most commonly used effects in music production and every producer should have an array of various reverb effects at their disposal. Developed over the last 9 months Nebula is a true labour of love for Minimal System Instruments and we are confident this is reflected in the quality of the plugin both in terms of sound and control and also visually. Nebula can be used to create standard reverb effects but it really excels when used to create stunning atmospheric sounds from something as simple as a single drum hit. When used with more complex loops and sounds the possibilities are endless.
Techno Producer ‘Psionzfikshun’ was a BETA tester throughout the whole development process and here is what he had to say about Nebula:

Datura-Instruments has released Optimus 8 and Jericho 4, two free VST instruments for Windows. Opus 8 is more than a organ-sound-generator. Using unsyncronized LFOs on the amplitude of each channel it is possible to create complex soundscapes which appear endless.
Mutch parameters can be remoted by the VSTi port of your host software. Changing sound while playback your song will be no problem. For any advice check the manual that is found in the data-folder you get from the download.

Manx releases “Destiny” ARP Odyssey emulation
Manx has released Destiny, a new synth VSTi for Windows. Here are some sounds from the Manx Destiny, an Arp Odyssey clone from Manx Synthesizers which runs as a VST plugin on PC computers. “The emphasis here, as always with Manx products, is on authenticity; we’re fans of the original classic and we didn’t consider it to be in need of much updating other than full midi implementation and one or two minor tweeks.”
Destiny is the latest product from Manx Synthesizers, who specialize in the implementation of classic analog synthesizers in software; in this case, an Arp Odyssey clone. It is designed to emphasize sound authenticity so the Destiny feature set closely matches that of the original, although the user can select between monophonic and duophonic functionality.

New free KORG minitron emulation for Windows
Almost start to wish I had a PC as well back home, although it would not be a massive investment to get the real one.
easytoolz has released minitron, a freeware virtual analog synthesizer instrument for Windows. A new toy for the masses, a “Emu” of the Korg Monotron, it is not a real Emulation, more a Adaption of the simple but effective.

Need more grit and dirt bass synth sounds in your music?
Noisebud needed a bass synth that delivered more grit and dirt and didn’t need hours of twiddling before getting there. They based the sound engine on waveshaping through distortion, bit crush and resonance since their VST fx chains on bass channels almost always contain that sort of plug-ins. The result is an angry old fart named Burt. He can get so angry that his audio buffers overflow and get silent – you have to restart your DAW to cool him down but don’t worry, Burt will start to scream again.
