New Vive la Fête album ‘Produit de Belgique’
Out soon is the newest Vive la Fête album “Produit de Belgique”. Produced by Jo ‘Technotronic’ Bogaert “Produit de Belgique” will be preceded by the single “Décadense” of which the video is now available.
“Although some might think the material is rather Sisters Of Mercy like, the latest single shows a rather chanson like approach, which they displayed quite often in recent times. Not sure if it will please the more electronic crowd the band used to cater to.”, says SL.
Décadanse is the first single of Vive la Fête’s new album ‘Produit de Belgique’. It’s a group album with songs worked out by all the members of the band. “This way the record represents very well the typical live-sound of the group,” says guitar player Danny Mommens. “It also enables us to play every song live.”
Vive la Fête’s new live show is therefore a mix of new material and songs from the previous six albums. Indeed since 1997, the Belgian band of Danny Mommens (ex-bass player of dEUS) and Els Pynoo has been bringing danceable electro-rock, with a touch of kitsch and some new wave and French chanson lurking in the background.
In 2002, the king of fashion Karl Lagerfeld meets the couple and is charmed by their music and their looks. This gives green light to the international adventure of Vive la Fête: fashion shows of Chanel in Tokyo, New York, Las Vegas, Berlin, Milan and Paris, the posh Bal de la Rose in Monaco and the face of Chilli Beans in Brazil.
Still in 2012 Danny (guitar) and Els (vocals) are travelling around the world in the company of Roel Van Espen (keyboards), Ben Brunin (bass) and Gino Geudens (drums). Sputnik is a russian manufacturer by Roman Filipov. Sputnik’s first offering was a Dual Waveform Generator, which is basically a clone of the classic Buchla Model 258 triangle-core oscillator, supposed to be pretty good for FM.
A simple acid techno sequence on the Darktime to demonstrate the sonic capabilities of this amazing oscillator.

New album with Ultravox in the making – Brillant
EMI announce the return of Ultravox with their first studio album in 28 years. Following on from the sold-out “Return To Eden” reformation shows in 2009, the classic Ultravox line-up has recorded a 12-track collection of brand new songs, “Brilliant”, which will be released on May 28th ahead of a full UK tour in September and October.
Emerging from the new wave and electro scenes of the late 70’s, Ultravox fashioned a form of electronic rock music that was uniquely powerful and delivered massive hits through the 1980’s such as “Hymn”, “Dancing With Tears In My Eyes”, “The Voice”, “Reap The Wild Wind”, “Love’s Great Adventure”, “We Came To Dance” and of course the timeless and atmospheric “Vienna”. Full details of the album will be revealed soon along with the thirteen-date tour they will be embarking on later this year.

Skyline – Analog Keys and Rhythms for Kontakt
Rhythmic Robot has released Skyline Analog Keys and Rhythms for Kontakt.
Skyline is sampled from a rare Italian GIS Skyline keyboard. The Skyline was an early 70s analog keyboard-and-rhythms combo machine with 3 combinable keyboard tones (giving it a grand total of 7 sounds) and six preset analog rhythms. It was a strikingly designed instrument, with a contoured and beveled matte black case standing on twin columns attached to a pedestal base. The casing also housed an amp and twin speakers, which helped to take the edge off the transistor sound and gave the Skyline a surprisingly sweet, warm tone.
Rhythmic Robot’s sampled version of the instrument samples all of the tones and their combinations, ensuring that combined tones sound exactly as they do on the original Skyline (rather than recreating them in Kontakt). It also contains the Preset Rhythms, which have been sliced and are fully sync-able to host DAW tempo – and also can be combined for multi-rhythms. In addition to the Preset Rhythms there are individual kit piece hits for the rhythm tones, which have been multi sampled and are triggered randomly to avoid machine-gunning.
Skyline incorporates some carefully-chosen effects accessible from the front panel, with Compression and Level controls for the Rhythm section, and Tube saturation, Vibrato and envelope Attack and Decay for the keyboard sounds, plus a lush Chorus. Although the original Skyline was mono, the sampled version includes a subtle stereo spread from the low notes to the highs. Output can be run through an amp cab simulator for an extra “live” feel.

MakeNoise Phonogene Sound Experiments
Plain vanilla experiments with Make Noise Phonogene; the soundfile comes from OP-1 Teenage Engineering; the modulating triangle wave comes from a LiveWire oscillator.
The Phonogene is a digital re-visioning and elaboration of the tape recorder as musical instrument (Firmware Engineered by Flemming Christensen, Gotharman). It takes it’s name from a little known, one of a kind instrument used by composer Pierre Schaeffer. While it is not an emulation, it does share the primitive, tactile nature of it’s namesake, and expands upon the original concepts. It is informed by the worlds of Musique Concrète (where speed and direction variation were combined with creative tape splicing to pioneer new sounds) and Microsound (where computers allow for sound to be divided into pieces smaller then 1/10 of a second, and manipulated like sub-atomic particles). Having voltage control over every parameter, it is most successful as a digital audio buffer for the modular synthesist.
The Phonogene is comprised of a pair of tool-sets which work well together. Tape Music Tools allow for sounds to be recorded on the fly, layered using the internal Sound On Sound function, manually cut into pieces using the SPLICE function, and re-organized with the ORGANIZE control. Once it is Spliced up, it is possible to create nearly infinite variations of the original loop by modulating the ORGANIZE parameter, and VARI-SPEED allows for the speed and direction of playback to be controlled continuously with one control signal. GENE-SIZE, GENE-SHIFT and SLIDE make up the Microsound Tools. GENE-SIZE divides the audio buffer into progressively smaller pieces called Genes (aka particles, grains, granules). A clock signal applied to GENE-SHIFT will step through those pieces in chronological order, while a control signal (such as the Wogglebug Smooth CV) applied to SLIDE, moves through those pieces in a nonlinear fashion. Using SLIDE, random access of the audio buffer is possible. Obviously, functions such as VARI-SPEED and ORGANIZE are useful for Microsound as well, which is why these functions were grouped into one module. The end result is a sampler/ looper/ audio buffer that is able to exist within a modular synthesizer system, and offer a vast amount of real-time sound manipulation in a fast and tactile way.
There is often the expectation that “bad sounds” such as clicks, pops, distortions, wrong notes, phase in-accuracies and otherwise, should be impossible with modern musical instruments. Many designers are making instruments which are fool-proof, and which guarantee some specific musical result, thus making it easy to create the same music, over and over again. The Phonogene does NOT use this approach. In fact, we have made it very possible to make the “bad sounds” and “mistakes” that have led to some of the greatest moments in musical history (and of course, some of the worst!). With the Phonogene, it is possible to Splice sounds in such a way that you will hear sharp contrasts, clicks and pops. This is the physics of sound! It is possible to slow down a recording to point of complete decimation, so that all that remains is trail of digital artifacts. Such are the limitations of digital sound (at the moment). It is possible to render the source material completely unintelligible, to cut busted loops, to distort digitally, to obscure, to regenerate to the point of almost no signal integrity. This is the nature of the Phonogene. If you seek the perfect looping tool, in the most contemporary sense of the word, then please look elsewhere. If you desire to explore the realm of modular, digital sample manipulation and microsound, welcome!
