This is oddball instrument artist Arius Blaze’s Impossible Box, a musical instrument containing synthesizers, sequencing, MIDI, multi-tracking, sampling, a drum machine, electronic filters, and, er, thumb pianos. Blaze writes that “there was a desire in the creation to not come out the other end with million ways to make bleepy sounds.” You can own it. For $1 million dollars.

‘A Tooth For An Eye’ deconstructs images of maleness, power and leadership. Who are the people we trust as our leaders and why? What do we have to learn from those we consider inferior? In a sport setting where one would traditionally consider a group of men as powerful and in charge, an unexpected leader emerges. A child enters and allows the men to let go of their hierarchies, machismo and fear of intimacy, as they follow her into a dance. Their lack of expertise and vulnerability shines through as they perform the choreography. Amateurs and skilled dancers alike express joy and a sense of freedom; There is no prestige in their performance. The child is powerful, tough and sweet all at once, roaring “I’m telling you stories, trust me”. There is no shame in her girliness, rather she possesses knowledge that the men lost a long time ago.

Ok.
An overwhelmingly intense week in the studio has passed. In glorious pain and love not given lightly, metaphorically speaking, the masters for the first release of the “Leaving Babylon” epic just arrived. I’m right now enjoying the honour of being the first person on the planet to hear the “Last Dance EP” in its entirety. Sometimes it’s pretty kool to be a member of Covenant.
It’s a 6-track EP with 4 songs and 2 remixes on it. One track written by each of us, including our new live member Andreas Catjar, so it’s a rather complex beast, this one. Majestic synths, quirky noises, unexpected harmonies, scary singing machines, fog horns, massive beats and of course Eskil’s incomparable vocals. I for one really look forward to see where this road is going to take us.
The exact release date is still in the shadows but we aim for June. Do keep tuned to keep track of that. We hope you’ll like it. Or find it interesting enough to react to it.
I’ll leave you with a little snippet from the title track “Last Dance” together with the evocative picture Eskil captured, from the ferry, of the castle Kronborg across the sound in Helsingör where Hamlet and his homies made such mayhem in Shakespeare’s classic. It’s like a mirage. Mist is common here, but I’ve never seen the castle like that. One can almost hear Horatio exclaim:
“And then it started like a guilty thing, upon a fearful summons”

Little Rhythm Synth
This little rhythm synth is a 4 step sequencer and NAND synth. Switches allow the user to turn steps on and off, in order to create simple rhythms. The knobs from left to right are: volume, tempo, pitch, and filter.
Sanyo DP 10 Synthesizer Card Player Review
The Sanyo DP 10 is a card player synthesizer from the early 80s. Yamaha released a series of keyboards around the same time and Sanyo appears to have taken that technology into their unit. Like the Yamaha keyboards they accept cards that have a magnetic strip the reader recognizes and plays a pre-programmed song. The cards features songs such as Dancing Queen, Londonderry Air, etc and a head cleaning card. The DP 10 can also mix signals into the unit via the 2 mic inputs and an auxiliary input to play along with another instrument or sing through a mic. You can also adjust the tone or change the tempo of he song. There is also a rhythm section for 10 different styles of music, such as march and disco, jazz and bossa nova.

DAN DEACON | Dronepilot
CV guru Dan Deacon dropped by the Moog Sound Lab where he grabbed a mountain of gear wired it up, and piloted his drones through an ever evolving soundscape anchored by 2 Minitaurs and 2 MF-107 Freq-Boxes. To further expand his sound, Dan also incorporated dueling MF-103 Phasers and a pair of CP-251 Control Processors.
