Prophet ’08 Synthesizer Module
A beauty!!
The Prophet ’08 Synthesizer Module is a tabletop “knobby” module with all of the features and controls of the Prophet ’08 Keyboard (minus the keyboard, of course) in an even more compact enclosure. Includes rack ears for optional rack-mounting. The eight-voice synthesizer with the completely analog signal path brought to the table features like velocity and aftertouch as well as an arpeggiator, gated stop sequencer, and split and layer sounds.
Akai MPC5000
The MPC5000 is the first MPC ever to include 8-track streaming hard disk recording, a 20-voice, 3-oscillator analog synthesizer with arpeggiator, a new sequencing engine with 960 ppq resolution, pad and track muting and mixing, 64 continuous sample tracks. There’s even a new FX engine with 4 FX buses and 2FX per bus.
In addition, the MPC5000 features a 64-voice drum/phrase sampler with 64MB memory Ð expandable up to 192MB. The display is twice the size of the MPC2500 and MPC1000 so waveforms appear crystal-clear. Integrated Chop Shop 2.0 now supports stereo chops and Patched Phrases. The MPC5000 is the first MPC to include Random and Cycle sample playback in addition to velocity Zone Play. A turntable preamp is also included.
The MPC5000’s virtual analog synth eliminates need for external analog synth modules or buggy software based synthesizers. The new 8-track direct to disk recorder lets you produce your whole song in the MPC and then mix it down with the internal sequenced programs and any input thru material. Add the optional CD/DVD drive and you can then burn an audio or data CD or your mix. Over 650MB of premium-quality sounds from Loopmasters are included to get you up and running with pro-quality production in seconds.

Roland TR-909 now in a Flash version, LOL
FL909 attempts to simulate the original sound of the Roland TR-909. This drumcomputer hits the market 1984 and was a long time the state of art in house and techno productions. Shift-Click the Step-buttons for accent triggers. Shift-Click-Move knobs for smoother resolution. Press Save to store a snapshot of the current settings to a flash cookie. Restore snapshot by pressing Load. Clear to delete all patterns and reset all knobs. Drag and drop a pattern button (invisible) to copy a pattern to a new location.
Tempo, patterns, drum tunings, levels, and everything you need can be manipulated. Better yet, your settings can be stored and recalled. And best yet, you don’t have to buy anything or even download anything.

Ecler was one of the first company to send us information as to their plans for NAMM ’08. On display will be two EVO5 mixers with Ableton and Traktor Scratch setups, the full line of NUO and HAK plus 3 NEVER SEEN BEFORE products.
Although I am scepticle that the Propellerhead guys will show anything of significance this time at the NAMM show I couldn´t help post this video from last years event – still in anticipation of Thor coming…

Crosstalk by Karl Bartos
- Karl Bartos (former Kraftwerk) has a new project going which looks quite interesting, below Karl explains himself what Crosstalk is all about:
- “Years ago I have written a song called “Crosstalk” in order to raise some sound exchange and communication. Today with Web 2.0 we have been able to set up a forum in virtual space and this particular song, indeed, became reality.
The theme of the first edition is the decontextualisation of my music and I really thank everyone for their enthusiasm and contribution. That means a lot to me.

Manipulate sounds by moving glowing blocks

The reacTable, a new instrument that lets musicians manipulate sounds by moving glowing blocks on a round, transparent table, is wowing festival audiences after it was hand-picked by Björk for use on the singer’s summer tour.
The modular synthesizer mashes up shades of Tron, laser hockey and classic Moogs using open-source reacTivision software and an under-the-hood camera to track blocks that, when added, rotated or moved, combine to produce beeps, whoops and soaring synth lines.
The reacTable‘s developers say it is the latest in an emerging wave of “tangible music interfaces,” but to the touring musicians who play the thing, it’s merely “cool.”
Each block has a different function — like changing a sound wave’s amplitude or acting as a metronome — that is denoted by a unique hieroglyph. Players move, rotate and flip the blocks, run their fingertips over the tabletop’s surface and alter the blocks’ proximity to each other to control the music produced by the machine. Pulsing visuals that light up the tabletop come courtesy of a projector beneath the reacTable’s translucent Perspex surface, making the instrument interesting to the eyes as well as the ears.
