Mopho Programming In-Depth

July 31, 2013 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Mopho Programming In-Depth

The Mopho is actually pretty cool if you treat it like 4 track sequencer.

Mopho is a compact and affordable—but powerful—monophonic analog synthesizer. The voice architecture is identical to a single voice of the Prophet ’08, but with a couple of unique twists to distinguish it from its award-winning sibling. We have added two sub-octave generators—one per oscillator—for additional girth and crushing basses. It also has an audio input that lets you process external audio and mix Mopho’s own audio output back in pre-filter for feedback effects that can range from subtle distortion to extreme skronk. The Push It button is a manual trigger that lets you play a specific note or latch notes and sequences on. It can also step through a sequence to play short melodic lines without a keyboard. Of course, Mopho can also be used with a MIDI controller or external sequencer.

Mopho is fully programmable and all the parameters can be tweaked from the front panel. The four Assignable Parameters controls are assignable per program for optimum performance control. A free editor is available for Mac OS and Windows to facilitate programming. (And, if you already have a Prophet ’08, most of Mopho’s parameters can be controlled from the Prophet’s front panel via MIDI!)

Mopho is perfect for people who want to learn the ins and outs of real analog synthesis without spending a bundle, DJs looking to add some old school sonic spice to their setups, and musicians who will appreciate a great-sounding, very portable mono synth.

  • Affordable, fully programmable mono synth with a 100% analog signal path.
  • Classic, real analog sound—including legendary Curtis analog low-pass filter.
  • Process external audio through the filter and envelopes.
  • Just 7.5″ x 5″ (19.05 cm x 12.7 cm).
  • Free editor for Mac OS and Windows.

The Roland SH-2 Experience

The Roland SH-2 analog monosynth was a kind of SH-101 but with an extra oscillator and no sequencer – very much with the livery of the SH-09 – which is a nice bass monosynth

Demo of the Roland SH-2 vintage analogue synth. Driven via cv using kenton midi to cv converter and midi sent from Orion daw. Fx indicator on top left visible when used.

KORG analog synths performance, details below:

Trying to make soundscape or something, improvising with all of my KORG analog synthesizers.
KORG monotron / monotron Duo / monotron Delay / MS-20 mini / Volca Beats/ Volca Keys. SFX with VOX DelayLab ( for MS-20 mini ) / Lexicon MX200 ( entire ), mixed with Behringer MX400 and TAPCO MIX.100, recorded with Zoom Q3HD.
.. and .. also KROME is used as a table for those analog stuffs .

Roland MKS 80 Super Jupiter – Overview

July 27, 2013 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Roland MKS 80 Super Jupiter – Overview

The MKS-80 is basically a refined Jupiter 8 in a module. It is called the Super Jupiter and it is very fat and very analog!

RolandMKS80

Its great sound is due in part to the classic analog Roland technology in its filters, modulation capabilities and a thick cluster of 16 analog oscillators at 2 per voice. It comes in a 2 space rack-module – no keyboard here. Tons of editing capabilities, although editing is tedious. It’s got all the classic sounds of the Jupiter synths and so much more. An excellent choice for ambient drones, pads, blips, buzzes and leads.!

The Jupiter-8 is an 8-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer. Each voice features two VCOs with cross-modulation and sync, pulse-width modulation, a non-resonant high-pass filter, a resonant Low-pass filter with 2-pole (12 dB/octave) and 4-pole (24 dB/octave) settings, an LFO with variable waveforms and routings, and two envelope generators (one invertible).

Features include adjustable polyphonic portamento and a Hold function for infinite sustain of notes and arpeggios. A versatile arpeggiator can be synchronized with external equipment by using the proprietary Roland DCB interface, clock input via CV jacks on the rear panel, or one of the aftermarket MIDI kits from Encore or Kenton. An assignable bender can be used to control pitch or filter frequency.

From the factory, the JP-8 could store 64 patches. Patches could be stored to, or loaded from, a standard analog tape/cassette. The Encore JP8MK MIDI kit doubles the patch memory to 128 and enables the JP-8 to store and recall patches over a MIDI connection, using a computer with sysex utility software.

Time machine: Oberheim Matrix-1000 Analog Synthesizer (1987)

Vintage synthesizer single sound demo by RetroSound

Oberheim Matrix-1000 Analog Synthesizer from the year 1987

The small Oberheim with the big sound! Very underrated analog synthesizer module from Oberheim with six voices, two DCOs per voice, 24 dB low pass filder and matrix modulation like the big brother Matrix-12 and Xpander.

the demo shows self-programmed and factory sounds.

more info: http://www.retrosound.de

About the synth:

The analog Matrix 1000 is essentially 1,000 Matrix 6 patches in a single-space compact rackmount MIDI module. It has the same synth architecture as the Matrix 6. Each of its 6 voices have two DCO’s (digitally controlled analog oscillator), a low pass filter, 2 VCA’s, 3 envelope gens, 2 LFO’s, and 2 ramp gens. The sounds are plentiful and good enough, however sounds can only be edited via MIDI, so you’ll need an external MIDI editor (such as MOTU’s Unisyn) or Access’ Matrix Programmer to edit parameters. You can also load sounds from the Matrix 6 via SysEx or software.

The Matrix 1000 provides an excellent source of pads, textures and ambient sounds. It has 195 “keyboard” sounds, 118 “strings”, 130 “woodwinds & perc”, 239 “synthesizer”, 119 “bass”, 74 “lead” and 125 “effects”. For the price, there is no better way to find genuine analog Oberheim Matrix sounds in a compact and very in-expensive rack module that is loaded with more sounds than you’ll ever need! The older versions of the Matrix 1000 have a black front-panel. The newer models in the ’90’s have a cream colored face-plate.

Accelerator goes Analog

Here is a Single patch on the Accelerator that attempted to replicate the sound of a Roland Jupiter-8. Chords were played over a sequenced portion of the same patch.
With clever programing a digital synth can sound really analog.

Shruthi – Anushri – Minitaur – Analog 4 – Minibrute – MS2000

Live recorded jam session; mainly to demonstrate some analog/hybrid synths.

“Unfortunately since I had only 1 hand free I couldn’t tweak that much realtime and also had to move fast on switching between synths, so there might be some delays. Only pre-recorded tracks were the drums and the synth midi tracks, which was basically 1 loop. This is not a worked-out track, but maybe I will do so one day :-) No effects used, only some minor mastering/compression on the total mix.”
