This work started with the simple idea of using a type written poem and then composing music to it. Over a couple of days more images and sounds were added, each inspiring the other until the piece felt complete. Surrealistic visions, poetic interludes, analog synthesizers and video, boomboxes and scrambled mind effects are all at the heart of this piece. The song is 100% analog, with all the synths and drums recorded using TR808, TR606, live sequencing the four SH101s. Visual colors and processed effects were done with an LZX visionary.

Slīdskanis is an electronic musical instrument, MIDI controller, device which sends information to a sound synthesis devices or programs, led by their sound.
Unlike conventional synthesizer, which sounds different heights obtained by pressing different keys,
slīdskanim the neck with a special ribbon, a pushing and pulling with your finger, you can move from one sound to another without skip it,
slid smoothly from one sound to another, just as bezladu instruments such as violin, guitar, or play with a slide.
Slīdskanim related is one of the first musical instruments that originated in the 20th century 20-30 years-Theremin and Ondes Martenots, which is characterized by the vibrating vocal ghost-like sound. .
Is it possible to create a wide variety of timbres and sound hues, depending on which is controlled synthesizer.
For example you can record a voice sound and turn it into a unique musical instrument.
It is possible to add various additional audio effects that can be controlled with the addition of the pedal.
The slīdskaņa can experiment with non-traditional sound intervals, and not mikrotoņiem-key limit.
Design is based on the STM32-Olimexino mikrokontrollieris and meter Symbol Spectral company produced softpot, or touch-tape potentiometer.

Experimental: Sonification of Everday Things

This is a serious musical instrument. It rotates everyday things, scans their surfaces, and transforms them into audible frequencies. A variety of everyday objects can be mounted into the instrument. Their silhouettes define loops, melodies and rhythms. Thus mundane things are reinterpreted as musical notation. Playing the instrument is a mixture of practice, anticipation, and serendipity.
The instrument was built from aluminum tubes, white POM, black acrylic glass, a high precision distance measuring laser ( with the kind support of Micro-Epsilon ), a stepper motor, and a few bits and bobs.
A custom programmed translator and controller module, written in processing, transforms the measured distance values into audible frequencies, notes, and scales. It also precisely controlls the stepper-motor’s speed to sync with other instruments and musicians.

Ruffletron – demo of a synth outfit
A basic demo of the sensors embedded in the skirt and neck piece.
One of the yellow side buttons is meant to have a deeper bass sound, but we recorded using the audio in jack on the camera, so it couldn’t be captured.
For my next video, I would like to get this on an actual musician.

Skube – A Last.fm & Spotify Radio
Rethinking home audio and understanding how and where people share music was the jumping point for creating Skube. We are moving more towards a digital and online music listening experience, current portable music players are not adapted for this environment. And sharing music in communal spaces is neither convenient nor easy, especially when we all have such different taste in music.
The result of our exploration is Skube, a music player that allows you to discover and share music and facilitates the decision process of picking tracks when in a communal setting.
It is a fully working prototype through the combination of using Arduino, Max/MSP and an XBee wireless network. We access the Last.fm API to populate the Skube with tracks and scrobble, and using their algorithms to find similar music when in Discover mode. Then using Applescript, we get Spotify to play the music. We use XBees for the wireless communication between the each Skubes and to the computer using custom software that manages all this.

Experimental – Dirty Carter Hardwire Mod
This is a hardwire mod of the Dirty Carter Experimental Sound Generating Instrument, a post card sized hand held touch controlled instrument, designed by John Richards (Dirty Electronics) and Chris Carter ( Throbbing Gristle, Carter Tutti). It was originally produced for a special performance by Carter and the 25 strong Dirty Electronics Ensemble in 2010. Chris’ artwork is etched into the PCB and forms part of the circuit.
The instrument is mounted on a custom built wooden case with aluminium face plate covered with black leatherette.
On this mod all the touch points are wired up to pots, with rotary switches to select clock range and feedback input, giving more precise control and predictability. The mix tilt switch is disabled and rerouted to a toggle switch. The original speaker is removed and a ¼ audio out socket added. Also added is a low pass filter with resonance and cutoff controls and LFO for modulation and CV in. At full resonance the filter self oscillates.
The original instrument and additional circuitry are powered from a 9v PP3 battery.
