Forgotten Keys updates FK6: Roland CompuRhythm CR-78
Forgotten Keys has updated the Roland CompuRhythm CR-78 drum machine sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.
Roland CompuRhythm CR-78 library updated with Kontakt 4 style graphics, new samples taken at various accent levels, more control over individual sound parameters and a Presets menu. Kontakt 3 version also updated.
The CompuRhythm CR-78 library is available to purchase for £5.50 GBP.

The Roland CompuRhythm CR-78 was released in 1978 and was Roland’s first drum machine to feature user-programmable rhythms along with its 34 pre-sets. Each of the four programmable rhythm slots could hold either four sound tracks, or three sounds and an accent track.
There are 14 analogue instrument voices which have their own distinctive sound. One such sound is METALLIC BEAT which has its own volume slider and attempts to add a more realistic metallic attack to the CYMBAL sounds and always plays the same pattern as those sounds.
Roland also released a cut-down version of the CR-78: the CR-68. Although it had the same pre-set rhythms, it lacked programmability and was missing the METALLIC BEAT, TAMBOURINE and GUIRO sounds.
Famous users include Gary Numan (Mainly his Dance album and also live), Genesis (Duchess) Phil Collins (In the Air Tonight) and of course, the most famous of all: Many Others. Blondie (Heart of Glass intro) is often attributed to the CR-78, but a quick listen tells me that it isn’t. The sounds are not the same. It’s possibly the RHUMBA rhythm from a Home Organ or another Drum Machine.
The Model used to produce this Kontakt Instrument was an eBay purchase, and right at the top-end of the going rate. It is absolutely immaculate however. You could take it back to 1979, box it up and sell it as new. I’d take it back and give it to myself as a present of course!
Kid Nepro releases Vintage Synths Volume 2 for WAV, Reason and Kontakt
Kid Nepro says that, without having to shell out all that cash for a vintage synth, you can now get the next best thing – new samples from five of the best analog instruments ever produced.
Vintage Synthesizers Volume 2 includes a collection of new sounds from the ARP2600, Super Jupiter, Prophet-5, Prophet VS and Moog Modular Synths. Kid Nepro tells us that there are lots of cool basses, leads, pads, strings and analog synth sounds.
Vintage Synthesizers Volume 2 is available in WAV, Native Instruments Kontakt and Reason’s NN-XT sample player formats. Reason and Kontakt instruments are all set up for you. Just load and play. (Includes 1.1 GB Samples and 100 instruments)

ARP Odyssey – new sample library for Kontakt 4
Binary Music has announced the release of ARP Odyssey, a new sample library for Kontakt 4.
Consisting of 101 patches made up of over 1,400 samples, this is a detailed representation of a classic analogue synthesizer. The patches cover a wide variety of sounds, including a selection from the original patch book and a set of multi-sampled patches where different filter settings are mapped to velocity.
There were three main versions of the Odyssey. The first white-faced models were manufactured from 1972, then the black and gold face from 1974.
The model that we’ve sampled is a black and orange faced 2821 from about 1979. This has the advantage of more stable oscillators – though nothing like the stability that we take for granted in modern gear. The Odyssey has attracted an eclectic mix of players: Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, George Duke, Portishead, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, Ultravox, Gary Numan and Abba!
ARP Odyssey is available for download purchase now, priced at £12.00 (approx. $20 U.S.). There is also a free version with a small selection of patches.

Geiger Counter – non-harmonic percussive sequencer for Kontakt
Cinematique Instruments has released Geiger Counter, a non-harmonic percussive sequencer based pattern generator module for Kontakt.
It is contrary to Cement a non-harmonic percussive module which is best suited to lend your music production a contemporary percussive color. You can easily create groovy patterns built out of bits, glitches and blips!
Geiger Counter comes up with two different sound groups which can create numerous sound colors: There are firstly six different sounds of bits, glitch and blips – available twice at two separate tracks and secondly six different noise samples. For modifying the character of your pattern, Geiger Counter provides plenty of options to change the sound to your very own requirements: lowpass- and highpass filter (with a random high- and highpass filter (with a random high- and low pass modulator), distortion-, lofi- and speaker switches, a cacophony (!) switch, separate fader to set the length and volume of all three tracks and separate slider to set the amount of two delays and a reverb.
Geiger Counter runs in Standalone mode as well as in-sync to your host application. Select one of the six different samples by clicking the mouse button and moving it over on the 16th note of your choice to play the sound. That´s it!
