Quick demo of the Intellijel uFade 4hp VC cross fader module.
The xfade can be used for smoothly fading between two audio or CV sources. It is a nice way to create complex waveforms out of simpler sources. It can also be used as a linear VCA or as an alternative to filtering (crossafade between a sinewave and a harmonically rich source of the same pitch).
- DC coupled linear crossfader
- External cv to control fade position
- Special circuitry limits the range of incoming cv so that the xfade boundaries are not exceeded (when summing external plus offset position)
- Switch to change direction of xfade

Experimental – Dirty Carter Hardwire Mod
This is a hardwire mod of the Dirty Carter Experimental Sound Generating Instrument, a post card sized hand held touch controlled instrument, designed by John Richards (Dirty Electronics) and Chris Carter ( Throbbing Gristle, Carter Tutti). It was originally produced for a special performance by Carter and the 25 strong Dirty Electronics Ensemble in 2010. Chris’ artwork is etched into the PCB and forms part of the circuit.
The instrument is mounted on a custom built wooden case with aluminium face plate covered with black leatherette.
On this mod all the touch points are wired up to pots, with rotary switches to select clock range and feedback input, giving more precise control and predictability. The mix tilt switch is disabled and rerouted to a toggle switch. The original speaker is removed and a ¼ audio out socket added. Also added is a low pass filter with resonance and cutoff controls and LFO for modulation and CV in. At full resonance the filter self oscillates.
The original instrument and additional circuitry are powered from a 9v PP3 battery.

So following on from this post, I was digging around on Muffs and saw that the meme had evolved again. Slipperysoles had posted another self-generating Buchla patch, this time based on an idea from Douglas Leedy in 1970. Leedy made an album called Entropical Paradise which explored automata in music, which is documented in the indispensable book Electronic Music by Allen Strange. See the scan I made of the flow chart of Leedy’s original patch. I decided to try and recreate the this on my 200e system, which is itself a evolution of the Buchla 100 Leedy used. There are lots of differences in the modules and functions I had to contend with but I got somewhere close, and as always with the Buchla found something unique along the way

‘Tronto’ from Tronsonic – Vintage Polyphonic Modular for Kontakt 5
A demonstration of some of the features and sounds from Tronto. The aim of this synth was to make it as analogue and characterful as possible, sampling the waveforms through vintage valves to quarter inch tape.

This WAS a Kraftwerk Sample. Make Noise Phonogene: WTF Synthesis
Make Noise Phonogene and Echophon manipulating a sample from Kraftwerk’s “Boing Boom Tschak”. Totally insane!
Phonogene output is routed to a doepfer A-119 which extracts the gate signal and then is fed back into the ping input on a 4ms PEG, then those env outs are fed recursively into the phonogene, final out into Echophon then Intellijel Mutamix.
