ButterComp, a digital compressor effect plug-in for Mac.

Airwindows has released ButterComp, a digital compressor effect plug-in for Mac.

ButterComp, digital compressor effect

Like Desk, rather than apply color to the sound, ButterComp does its thing by using a better algorithm, a peculiar approach to compression that hasn’t been done before to my knowledge. Some bits of it are inspired by remarks from Alexey Vaneev, and some bits of it are strange Airwindows things he knows nothing of :) the upshot is, this compressor produces virtually no high frequency hash, and sounds bloom out of it in a delicious way.

ButterComp is available to purchase as an Audio Unit effect plug-in for Mac, priced at $59.99 USD.

8GB’s first-ever EP release is a small snapshot of the evolution of 8GB through these 4 years of existance.

Akira writes:

The main reason for this is that I am in need of funding for the Blip Festival Tokyo trip and this will help out. Anything you can help with is appreciated but since I don’t believe in taking money from people  without giving anything in exchange I thought of this (among other stuff that will appear in the coming weeks). With this I also mean to fund the new A/V set that is in development to premiere in Blip Tokyo in early September. Many, many hours of filming, designing, motion graphics work, gear and have been invested in 8GB since 2004 and it’s getting harder and harder, specially with a tight deadline, a full time job that takes a lot of my energy and such a costy trip to the land of far east.

The Album copy:

On 10 October, the 8-Bit State Security Agency voted 10-2 for a resolution saying that “an armed uprising in chipmusic is inevitable”, and that “the time for it is fully ripe”.

As such began the revolt that lead to the RED OCTOBER, an uprising in chipmusic affairs, featuring 4 tracks of dancefloor-smashing data propaganda.

8GB’s first-ever EP release is a small snapshot of the evolution of 8GB through these 4 years of existance. Being their first ‘proper’, solo release, after years of holding onto tracks for the pleasure of those checking out live shows, the Agency decides to release onto the public a concentrated and powerful package of propaganda, featuring artwork by kiken.corporation.

Zynewave has introduced Podium Free DAW

July 6, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Zynewave has introduced Podium Free DAW

Zynewave has introduced Podium Free, the freeware edition of its music production software for Windows PC.

Here’s what Zynewave has to say about Podium:

Podium is a modern production host that integrates audio recording, VST plugins and external MIDI and audio gear. An object based project structure allows for advanced media and device management.

Feature highlights: Hierarchic track layout, integrated sound editor, surround sound, spline curve automation, 64-bit mixing, multiprocessing and a stylish and customizable user interface.

Development concentrates on quality and stability. Software updates are released frequently with an active user-driven development cycle.

Podium Free is identical to the commercial Podium version, except for a few limitations:

  • MIDI interface setup is limited to one input and one output.
  • 64-bit mixer engine option is disabled.
  • Plugin multiprocessing is disabled.
  • ReWire is disabled.
  • Surround-sound playback is disabled.
  • The disabled plugin multiprocessing option means that only one CPU core will be used when processing plugins. If you have a dual-core CPU you will be able to use 50% of your available CPU power before the Podium CPU indicator overloads. Podium Free still uses all available CPU cores for various tasks such as GUI updates and disk streaming.

These limitations may change in newer releases of Podium Free. It will depend on new features added to Podium, and the general user response to Podium Free.

Good news regarding the iElectribe for iPad

Korg has announced that it has extended the special $9.99 introductory price for its iElectribe virtual analog beatbox iPad app, available from Apple’s App Store (inside the iTunes store). The $9.99 USD price is now in place until July 31, 2010, after which the regular price of $19.99 USD will take effect. Here’s what Korg have to say…

Since its debut in April, Korg’s iELECTRIBE has been a huge hit with users, resulting in a series of five-star reviews and a firm spot in the top-ten music apps, having hit #1 multiple times. In May, Korg responded to user feedback, updating the iELECTRIBE app with Version 1.1.0, adding the ability to export audio, improved knob response and some sonic enhancements.

About iELECTRIBE:
Since its debut in 1999, the aggressive sound, unique functionality and intuitive beat-building style of Korg’s ELECTRIBE-R rhythm synthesizer became a mainstay for creative artists worldwide. Korg ELECTRIBE products have been popular due in part to their interactive, easy-to-use front panel controls. Today, this instrument has been reborn as iELECTRIBE for iPad. Taking full advantage of the iPad’s intuitive 9.7-inch multi-touch display, iELECTRIBE allows users to interact with an incredible sound engine to expand their musical and creative horizons. Just as on the original ELECTRIBE, users simply choose one of the eight parts (or sounds) and touch the 16-step sequencer to quickly build patterns and grooves.

The iELECTRIBE faithfully recreates the historic ELECTRIBE-R’s entire sound engine including analog synthesis modeling and PCM synthesis, along with virtual Valve Force tube modeling. The sequencer can record instrument parts as well as advanced Motion Sequencing the recording of knob movements as part of a pattern.

The Master effect processor provides eight enhanced effect types. The iELECTRIBE comes preprogrammed with 64 new preset patterns that allow the user to instantly create music in a wide variety of dance and electronic music styles; the user can also create up to 64 patterns of their own.
