January 24, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Demo of ag.granular.suite and preset mixpad

This is a short demo of the ag.granula.suite, which is a collection of Max/Msp patches for generalised granular sound processing written using FTM/Gabor libraries (developed at IRCAM) and encapsulated as Jamoma modules. The ag.presetmixpad module is used here to control preset interpolation of ag.granular.control. You can read more about the patches at audibledata.com/Software.html and download them at audibledata.com/Download.html

Music from the brain – Epoc Neural Interface

January 23, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Music from the brain – Epoc Neural Interface

The neural interface for sonifying my brainwaves is here, care of friends who brought it over to the UK. This way I was able to get the standard version (not sold abroad) and avoid the expensive developer licence (seeing as its now been hacked and Apps like MindYourOSC’s) are all I need.

Failing that I want to make a robot arm wired up to a 1971 Gibson Les Paul and shred classic metal licks to my brain’s content. When I’ve done that, discard my body and just put my disembodied brain in a jar attached to a Les Paul and maybe a Moog Voyager…

The Epoc Neural Interface is described as a “personal interface for human computer interaction” and retails for $299.

Looks like several of the big bands within synth music are following in the footsteps of Covenant with new releases during 2011, in a previous post we saw the teaser from And One and now it is VNV Nations’ turn

It seems 2011 will be a very busy year for Ronan Harris and Mark Jackson.

The band recently revealed at their Facebook page that a new album is in the works and scheduled to be released later this year. A World Tour is also to expect along with lots of Festival appearences.

Build Your Own Antiquated Obsolete 7 Segment Display Lady GaGa / Daft Punk VJ Glasses

January 23, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Build Your Own Antiquated Obsolete 7 Segment Display Lady GaGa / Daft Punk VJ Glasses

Fun stuff or should I say nerd stuff :-)

Long before Daft Punk’s motor cycle helmets with LED messages scrolling by or Lady GaGa’s video display glasses we were apart of a generation limited to displaying text on calculators with small indistinguishable red coloured displays……Oh Joy….. I remember as a kid running around the house showing my family how to spell words like “bOObS”, “hEllO” and “ShEll”. This was accomplished by entering in certian numbers then holding the calculator upside down…..Ah memories. It appears that 8 bit music is being intergrated into popular music each day i.e. “The Time (dirty bit) by The Black Eye Peas”. So why not build your own pair of archaic antiquated 10 digit 7 segmented display glasses. Just image you will be able to star in your own music videos or just stand out in the crowd in the middle of the dance floor. Should any drinks be dropped in your lap or thrown in your face have no fear of electrocution because these glasses can easily operate on battery power. Should you decide to be a Super Uber Geek and build your own glasses utilizing Nixie tubes than I am not resposible for your hair catching on fire or tempoary blindness caused by the 170+ volts coarsing through your temples. If you are still interseted in obtaining the schematic and PIC basic code then send me your email address.

Vintage synth exploration

January 23, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Vintage synth exploration

This guy has released a whole bunch of demos, comparing classic synths:

This is a side by side comparison betweeen my Minimoog D from 1978 (featuring the new oscillator board introduced after SN 10175) and my Synthesizers.com modular, equipped with 3 VCO’s and the Moog 904-A filter clone produced by Mos-Lab in France. Of course this is just a rough demo, because it’s not that easy to set the 904-A and the Mini’s filter exactly the same in real time because of their different architecture. I used the Mos-Lab 904-A instead of Dotcom’s Q150 for no particular reason, they sound almost identical (see my demo about those filters). The VCO’s also are set with the same waveforms (equal wide square wave) and octave intervals. The Dotcom is on the left, the Mini on the right channel, some delay added (be sure your speakers or earphones are correctly connected…).

Another short demo of those great vintage and contemporary analogue synthesizers. The Minimoog is the one performing in the higher register. Direct board take, only delay added.

Roland SH-09 (1980) Demo

Various sounds and settings of my little vintage Roland SH-09 (vco with and without suboscillator, waveform and octave changes, various filter cutoff and resonance settings, s/h filter modulation). Sequenced by a MFB Step 64, delay added. 30 years ago, this was one of the cheapest monosynths on the market, just a low-cost Minimoog alternative. Anyway, even if it lacks a second vco for oscillator beatings, compared to actual digital and virtual analogue synths this little thing rocks! The SH-09 was one if not the last Roland monosynth entirely build with discrete electronic components so it is also easy to repair.
