Multi-functional vocal channel strip plug-in

February 9, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Multi-functional vocal channel strip plug-in

Voxformer is a multi-functional vocal channel strip plug-in for professional audio applications. Combining several professional quality processing modules, Voxformer was designed to be a comprehensive solution for all your vocal processing needs – be it spoken or sung vocals.

The coolest feature of Voxformer is its one-knob vocal compressor. Using only a single knob, you can get a tight, open and definitive professional vocal sound with an excellent articulation in no time. You do not have to worry about common ratio and make-up gain controls since they are automatically selected by the advanced compression algorithm while attack and release parameters are stored in a mode preset. Moreover, Voxformer features two compressors of this type, allowing you to apply either a two-band or a two-stage (serial) vocal compression.

Voxformer also features the de-esser with selectable center frequency and threshold. Multi-band noise gate is available, which, in a manner similar to the compressor, was designed to bring ease of tuning while providing excellent sonic results. For those who like a saturated vocal sound, Voxformer implements a special module which applies a smooth saturation. Another useful feature Voxformer has to offer is the presence boosting module, which you can use to add some shine and space to the vocals.

As a finishing touch, Voxformer offers you a flexible easy-handling 5-band parametric equalizer (pre/post selectable) with a real-time output stage fast Fourier transform (FFT) spectrum analyzer display. In most cases Voxformer can be used for processing of a wide range of instruments beside vocals.
Applications

* Vocal track compressor
* Instrumental track compressor
* Track equalizer
* Presence booster
* Track saturator
* De-esser
* Noise (de-breath) gate
* Channel strip
* Stereo, mid-side, 5.1 processor

Changes in Voxformer v2.5

* The “Show All Channel Meters” routing switch added.
* Additional visual look variation settings added.
* Knobs in the compressor mode editor can now be linked with the Ctrl key.
* Smooth filter automation implemented.
* “Filled Spectrum” spectrum display mode switch added.
* Oversampling filter type “Min-phase/Lin-phase” switch added.
* Global “Auto Oversampling Level” 1X (off) option added.
* Control surface crosshair option added (can be switched off in the global options).
* De-esser pre-post compressor position switch added.

project wheel: basic interface tests

February 9, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on project wheel: basic interface tests

Some basic testing of a raw disc-based display for the enigmatically named “Project Wheel”.

Some tuning is needed: for example, the blocks generated from the sine wave audio show attenuation, due to some averaging code in the drawing algorithm, all of which needs a bit of refinement to improve alignment of visual and audible transients.

No, we’re not just implementing a circular looper. The next video we upload should give a hint of what’s to come.

Free Game Boy samples

February 9, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Free Game Boy samples

Bedroom Producers Blog has released a free sample pack – Game Boy LSDJ Noise And Glitch Sessions:

Ok, here’s a brand new free bpb sample pack. It’s called Game Boy LSDJ Noise And Glitch Sessions, and contains sounds recorded from a black Game Boy running LSDJ software. I’ve created the sounds using LSDJ’s awesome synth engine, combined with the built-in pattern editor.

You’ll probably notice that the included sounds are much more aggressive than what you’d expect to hear in a standard Game Boy video game, for example. I was going for a glitchy, noisy vibe, and the LSDJ synth engine turned out as a great tool for creating such sounds.

All included sounds are 100% clean recordings of the Game Boy sound output, no post FX added. This is also my first sample set recorded in 24bit.

Specifications:

  • Contents: 97 audio samples (24bit WAV)
  • Download Size: 23.6MB (ZIP archive)
  • Size On Disk: 38MB

Download at the BPB site.

The modular music box by monomatic

February 9, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on The modular music box by monomatic

Monomatic’s Modular Music Box on display at the Kinetica Art Fair, February 2011.

Thanks to Kamila for demonstration duties.

More information: monomatic.net

At the heart of the piece is a custom-made electro-magnetic rotary sequencer. Melodies are stored on a series of interchangeable, acrylic, 10” disks embedded with small magnets arranged in a regular circular grid

In the same way vinyl records are located on a turntable, these disks are centered on a spindle and rotate over a ‘play head’ made up of a line of magnetic field sensors – effectively replicating but superseding the set of pins on the revolving cylinder that pluck the tuned teeth of a steel comb in the traditional device.

Additional units are ‘daisy-chained’ to each other via single cables and include a self contained and controllable sound source (to hear and effect the musical output) and an animated representation of a dancing ballerina automaton – realized as a modern-day interpretation of the praxinoscope.

Inspired by the design of the second generation monome controllers these modular components draw on their minimalist design aesthetic and utilise a similar restricted material palette of walnut, brushed aluminium, translucent acrylic, and orange LEDs.

The work explores exhibition themes such as the ‘materialisation of data’, ‘the tactile digital’ and the ‘invisibility of technology’ while attempting to recapture something of the sense of craft and workmanship, refined aesthetics and genteel appreciation of the iPods of their day – refocused through the minimalist design aesthetic and tactile ergonomics of the monome.

Tom Oberheim SEM Pro Unboxing

February 9, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Tom Oberheim SEM Pro Unboxing

Unboxing video of a Tom Oberheim SEM-Pro. The song was done by me (Scott From Canada) entirely with the SEM pro (all sounds) except for the drums, which were done with the Korg M3M.

Some sounds were overdubbed a few times and of course some effects were added in the mix, but every sound originated in the SEM-Pro.

It is a VERY fat, clean and powerful sounding synth, a really nice addition to any keyboard setup. Highly recommended. I will probably use this more than the Moog Slim Phatty.
