Free step sequencer for live performances

May 6, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · 2 Comments

Judging from the UI it appears to be very straight forward and easy to use. Just load your samples and run. Question remains around audio quality and real time use, but if any of you have or will try it feel free to leave your thoughts on it.

Noisebud has released CatchDad, a new plug-in created strictly for live situations.

With CatchDad you can catch 4 different sounds with just the click of a button and instantly start to program rhythms with the built in step sequencers.

Put it on a channel (or return track) in Ableton Live (or any other VST host that send time signals). Activate live monitoring if you like to record live sounds or run a loop trough CatchDad and start programming beats on the fly, or you could use loops as sound banks to change sound as you go or catch a live drummer and start to rearrange what he’s playing in real time or just add hits here and there.

CatchDad is free and is available for Windows as a VST effect plug-in.

Starr Labs Wilson-MicroZone U648 Layout & Tuning Demo

May 6, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Starr Labs Wilson-MicroZone U648 Layout & Tuning Demo

The Wilson-MicroZone U648 keyboard was developed by Irv Wilson and Starr Labs as an alternate keyboard MIDI instrument. Multiple zones, layouts, layers, tunings, scales, and key/note arrangements are possible which allow for microtonal systems to be created and performed. Standard layout has octaves running horizontally, 6 ranks of 48 hex keys. An incredibly fun yet expressive way to come up with new chord progressions, composition ideas, and performance techniques. www.starrlabs.com

Offering an array of 288 keys, the U-648 is designed so that  musicians can create any variety of tonal systems, fingering systems, and divisions of the octave within the world of MIDI.

This works well with microtonal music where a large array is needed for each octave. The MicroZone allows the user to define multiple arrangements of notes, fingerings, tonal layouts, and tunings for whatever musical application needed.

Generate constantly evolving and changing music with no effort

May 6, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Generate constantly evolving and changing music with no effort

SoundZen is a new concept for music. It allows you to generate constantly evolving and changing music with no effort at all. SoundZen uses a form of cellular logic to determine how your song evolves over time.

It follows 2 simple principles:

1. When an arrow touches the edge of the grid, play a note.
2. If arrows collide they must turn 90 degrees for each arrow they collide with

You set up the app by touching any of the positions on the grid, touch it again to change direction and press play. Using the principles above, SoundZen will take you on a zen-like journey based on the input you gave. Sit back, relax and watch as your song changes right in front of you.

You can also save/load your songs and we have some more features coming very soon including more instruments and different skins.

Note: While SoundZen will work on all devices, we recommend you use a 4th generation device for the best experience. Check out Sound Zen now for just 99 cents on the Apple iTunes store at http://itunes.apple.com/us/a…
