Brief demo of the progress thus far on a new app, Cascadr.
Top set of columns can be slid up and down to control the pitch of each of the 8 notes in the sequence. Bottom set of columns control the volume of each note. The animation signifies the speed of each sequence – note that they don’t sync with the particular note that’s playing – it’s all just for show at the moment!
Continental Shuffle with a Doepfer
Here’s what they have to say about it:
Just finished adding speaker carpet and protective corners to my Doepfer A-100LC9 Low Cost Case so it’s more durable for portability and gigging (these are the cases that come with a raw wood finish). I also attached 4 thick rubber door-stops (please don’t laugh) on the back so that it can be played while laid flat. The stoppers elevate it enough to get a right-angled IEC cable in under there and also so I can reach under to the on/off switch on the back.
PATCH NOTES (well, some highlights of what I remember…):
Hi-hats are created with the 6 oscillator output of a Doepfer A-117 Digital Noise/808 Sound Source going into the high-pass input of an Elby Designs CGS735 Synthacon Filter (while an MFB Drum-05 Snare Drum goes into the band-pass input). I’m using the Analogue Systems RS-60 as the Envelope Generator for the hi-hats. I ‘play’ the one-shot switch and also hit the gated repeat switch for out-of-time bursts of hi-hat. The other noise output from the A-117 (2 oscillators) is going into the Frequency Modulation input of the Harvestman Piston Honda. I only just discovered using noise as a FM source which is probably old hat to some (no pun intended).
A clock source is feed into the B input of a Malekko Switch and the Pittsburgh Timetable is ‘cued to play’ with the manual push-button on the Switch. The Doepfer A-166 Dual Logic Module is doing trigger/gate combining with various outputs of the 4MS Rotating Clock Divider and the Timtable to create shuffled rhythms for the hi-hats and the MFB Drum-04 Bass Drum.
2 X STG .mix are used like 2 halves of a stereo mixer
sent in to a newly arrived Flame FX-6 Multi-Effect module.
Polyrhythm experiments using AudioCubes
In this video it is shown how AudioCubes can be used together with a MIDI generative software to create polyrhythms. We set up the Impulse drum machine in Ableton Live 8 (backbeat room preset) as a sound source, and connected this via MIDI to our software, which uses the position of the AudioCubes to start and stop patterns, and the orientation to change patterns being played back. Each of the cubes is attached automatically to a drum sound (kick drum, snare, closed hi-hat,…) The patterns are all 32 steps in length and are played back in sync, by each of the cubes. The software was playing back the patterns at 70 BPM (beats per minute).
Each of the cubes can play any of the patterns, on any of the sounds, simply by turning each individual cube.

Xils-Lab has announced a new software synthesizer – The Synthix.

It is inspired by a famous and legendary Synthesizer from the 80′s, which a lot of talented guys used as their central Keyboard, including some synths Gurus.
Its a piece of history, maybe the last Vintage Analog Polyphonic synthesizer.
It has a special multitimbral mode, 5 different hi quality and hi character filters, as you could expect from a Xils-Lab synth.
It is MORE than a strict emulation.
It has many additional features compared to its glorious ancestor, as you could expect from a modern era synthesizer .
But this is NOT ENOUGH. It has also never seen features !

Front 242 is a pioneering Belgian electronic music group that came into prominence during the 1980s. During their most active period (effectively ending in 1993 with the albums 06:21:03:11 Up Evil and 05:22:09:12 Off) they influenced many electro-industrial and electronic artists.
Free retro synth pop: Diskodiktator – Five Year Mission (S.P.O.C.K)
Diskodiktator has released a free downloadable remix album of the album Five Year Mission that was in turn made by the classic Swedish retro space synth pop act S.P.O.C.K. Diskodiktator started as FKK Jugend in 1996, renamed to Diskodiktator in 1999 and released some 30 demos on cassette and CDr before the first debut album We Are… in 2002.
Swedish Energy Rekords then took on the band and released the second debut album The World According To Diskodiktator in 2004. That album was later nominated for “Best Scandinavian Newcomer” at the 2005 Scandinavian Alternative Music Awards.
In May 2005 Diskodiktator started the label Electric Fantastic Sound and has since then spent more time on promoting other bands than actual music-making.

Making cool sounds with the Roland Space Echo
The Roland Space Echo is a vintage Tape-Echo machine for creating true analog echo effects. The RE-201 is a simple system in which a small loop of tape records an incoming signal and immediately plays the recorded sound back over a couple playback heads before being erased over by new incoming audio. A real analog system with warm, gritty and almost noiseless operation, the Space Echo can provide warm, unpredictable and highly tweakable echo effects.
There are twelve settings to adjust various tape loop speeds, number of repeats, levels, intensity, etc… It can even generate some of its own feedback loops for instant sci-fi effects. It features a built in spring reverb for even more classic analog effects. The RE-201 not only has Vintage appeal but is still widely used to get those dubby, slightly unpredictable, musically analog echo effects.
