iTuttle: New synth for iPad
A new synth for your iPad arrives. Here’s what iTuttle is all about:
iTuttle is an Awesome Fat & Warm Subtractive Monophonic Synthesizer. Fat by Design with its 9 oscillators section, all waveforms (but Sinus with oscillators) use generalized PWM (called “Ratio”), so you can tune/modulate the waveform of each oscillator / LFO. Its huge modulations capabilities lets you create a very large sound styles. The arpeggiator includes an 8 steps sequencer and lets you mute, change the gate duration, the groove and the velocity of each step. In addition, you can use the global Shuffle to humanize your arpeggios.

Microsoft releases consumer level music creation environment – Surface Music Kit
Microsoft has unveiled the second-generation range of its Surface tablets, most notable amongst these is the Surface Music Kit, a new pressure-sensitive keyboard and software bundle specially designed for remixing and DJing.
Joe Hahn explains why the Surface Music Kit is an easy way to start remixing music the way you want.
Whilst full spec details of the kit are yet to be revealed, according to Microsoft the software allows users to import music, BPM sync tracks, create loops and play around with samples and virtual instruments.
The kit was unveiled at Microsoft’s Surface launch event, at which the company also introduced the new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets. Both touchscreen units benefit from increased processing power, longer battery life and improved display and camera resolution.
All are set for release 22 October, no word on the Music Making Kit price yet, but Surface 2 configurations will start at £359/$499 and Surface Pro 2 at £719/$899.

In this Logic Pro X video tutorial, Bill Lee explores Logic’s new Track Stacks function for mixing a song.
In this video we will explore the use of Track Stacks in the Logic X mixing workflow. Mixing a song with many instruments can get complicated and sometimes hard to manage. Track Stacks can help simplify the mix process by grouping, submixing and simplifying the visual representation of your musical parts. This is especially useful when you have many tracks of a similar type, like percussion and background vocals. This is also useful on software instrument tracks as you can see in Matt Shadetek’s latest video tutorial, Using Track Stacks for Big Layered Synths. Once you have combined multiple tracks into a Track Stack, you can then process or automate the Stack as a submix. This feature is one for every Logic user to be familiar with. The Groovesizer (pronounced groove-a-sizer) is a DIY 8-bit audio platform. It’s a musical chameleon that can take on a number of different roles from sequencer to synth, drum machine, or midi controller. Exactly what the Groovesizer is at a given moment depends on the firmware it’s running. Existing firmware can be freely hacked, or new firmware developed using the beginner friendly Arduino IDE. Firmware is loaded to the board directly from the Arduino IDE, either via an AVR ISP programmer, or by flashing the Atmega chip on an Arduino board and swapping it out.
The Groovesizer is based around a custom PCB that features 6 potentiometers and 5 rows of 8 tactile switches and leds (4 rows for the sequencer / trigger buttons and 1 row dedicated to control functions). It features an integrated Arduino clone, an 8-bit DAC option, an LM386 amp output, MIDI in/out/sync and is configurable to work with some of the most popular existing Arduino audio projects.
Furthest along in its development is the Alpha firmware which features a 3 oscillator monosynth attached to a 32-step sequencer with 112 memory locations to store patches and patterns.
