I was able to to borrow a Prophet 12 recently. Since it has analog filters, I thought it might be interesting to do “analog things” to it. This is part of what happened next.
At first I was disappointed when I saw that there were no CV connections, but I soon found that the two pedal inputs can be used with a variety of CV gear.
In this video I have the Koushion Step Sequencer iPad app sending MIDI notes to the Moog Mult-Pedal. The Multi-Pedal converts them to an analog control Voltage which step-sequences the Prophet 12’s filter.
The Moog CP-251 allows us to make multiple copies of the Control Voltage so we can also step-sequence a Moog Voyager and Little Phatty. Learn more at www.experimentalsynth.com

The Well-Sequenced Synthesizer is a series of sequencers that are designed to be physical interfaces to play with traditional music theory. The sequencers were created by Luisa Pereira, a research fellow at NYU?s Interactive Telecommunications Program. “This new analog monosynth sounds great and is very creatively intuitive to work with.
This track is a arpegiator pattern I programmed into it. I used the Classic filter, first the 12dB then the 24dB in the last minute. A lot of other modulations. With filter resonance peaking out near the end of the piece. No overdubs, recorded on one solo track. Used some Lexicon MX300 effect for room space.”

Tom Zimmerman created Project: Autobahn, a generative music system that creates music based on an automobile’s control sensors.

Tom Zimmerman is one of my favorite hacker/inventors. With over 40 patents awarded, Tom’s the creator of the legendary virtual reality navigation device, the Data Glove, and has written a number of fun DIY projects for MAKE magazine. We invited Tom to participate in the Boing Boing Ingenuity: Data Driven hack day on August 17, 2013, and his creation, called Project: Autobahn, was awarded our coveted “Weirdest Hack” prize. He took home a gift basket from our friends at SpikenzieLabs, and a pair of Audeze audiophile headphones.
Project: Autobahn uses OpenXC data as MIDI data to compose and play Kraftwerkian music that matches the driver’s behavior. As Tom says in the video, the style of music the car generates could be used to provide feedback to the driver on how safely and efficiently she or he is operating the vehicle.
