The Octatrack DPS-1 is a 8 track dynamic performance sampler, introduced to us at the MusikMesse this year. The Octatrack is ideal for radical audio processing and performance oriented sampling. Every track features real-time pitch scaling & time stretch and the next generation Elektron step sequencer has been designed with maximum usability and efficiency in mind.
Flex machines offer the most extensive sound manipulation possibilities. A sample used within a Flex machine is loaded to the RAM memory of the Octatrack. From there it can be twisted, stretched, warbled and reassembled in multiple ways. Flex machines are unbeatable sound processors.
Static machines are the perfect tool for handling extremely large samples. Samples assigned to Static machines are streamed from the Compact Flash card, thus their size can be in the order of gigabytes. Of course you can time stretch and pitch scale them as needed.
Thru machines do not sample or play back sounds. Instead they let the Octatrack affect incoming audio with the dual FX blocks. Two powerful FX chains each consisting of up to four linked tracks, totalling eight effects per chain, can be formed.
Other machines – The Octatrack will feature special machines for recording audio from the four external inputs. These machines can be used as strange effect devices, intricate loopers or as simple audio recorders. They will allow for quick assembling of audio structures.
A sequencer designed for playing live

Introducing Synthetic Sound Labs 1310 Digital Delay module
This is a demonstration of the new Synthetic Sound Labs 1310 Digital Delay module. The device is capable of subtle doubling, hard timed delays and super flanging. I mostly am using it as a gentle flanger in this demo but it is far more powerful than what I demo here. I also finished a project where I was modifying a stock Q111 Pan/Fade module from Synthesizers.com. I added an attenuator pot to the control input and added an inverter circuit to the output #2. This enables the Panning portion of the module to output audio to two channels of my mixer in stereo. I have control over how wide the panning is and both output channels are normal (un-inverted) so there is no cancellation when sending to effects etc..
I am using several other delay units as well in this demo. TC Electronics D-Two is way in the background so it isn’t really a factor. Strymon ‘s Blue Sky Reverberator is the heavy plate reverb in the background. The Korg Kaoss 3 pad is used to have some looping fun, but I tried to keep it low level so not to interfere with the demo of the 1310 delay module.
There are four separate voices playing in this piece from the modular. The sequencers are generating various time signatures and loops but all of the distorted flanging effect is the 1310 Digital Delay. This is one fun unit and a great addition to my modular synth.
The title is about the amount of time since I got serious about building a modular synth to work with. It has been a little over two years (9 seasons) since I made the commitment. No looking back and I am very happy with the move away from dedicated keyboards and soft synths (although I still use them for other things).
Thanks to Doug Slocum at Synthetic Sound Labs for the great delay module. He has other ideas in the works and I am very excited about the future of his endeavor.

Symbolic Sound’s new Kyma Control app for the iPad gives sound designers, musicians, and researchers a new wireless multi-touch controller for the Kyma/Paca(rana) sound design workstation.
Kyma Control bundles four of the most popular Kyma controller-types into one, wireless multi-touch package that includes:
- An auto-mapped, labelled, bi-directional controller/display that mirrors Kyma’s Virtual Control Surface. All of the controls you see on the computer screen are also available on the iPad screen, including the Preset selection and Roll-the-dice options;
- A multi-touch pen/tablet-style controller, tracking as many as 11 fingers with identifying color trails to help you keep track of where your fingers are touching the screen;
- A standard piano-style keyboard with discrete or continuous pitches and an extra dimension for !KeyTimbre control in Kyma;

Spatial realisation of aleatoric or randomly generated music
Sonus (One)” is a spatial realisation of aleatoric or randomly generated music. Although not all of the music is left to chance, the player can intervene albeit in a seemingly haphazard manner. Use the blocks either to block the flow of the balls or to trap them removing them from play.
The software is in part inspired by the work and teachings of John Cage, with “Sonus (One)” adding the dimension of space to the music of chance. Not only letting “sounds be themselves” but giving them room to do so.
“Sonus (One)” is part of the “Otherwise Autonomous” collection of digital instruments designed and programmed by Pixelh8.
