Big Tick Audio has released an update to its free universal presets manager, Zen 1.5.

  • Added midi-controlled “virtual bank” slots, where presets from different vstis can be stored
  • Replaced tooltips with a contextual help box
  • Added support for Zen-aware plugins, including assets management
  • Added ‘hidden’ flag to permanently hide presets from search results
  • Fixed various UI refresh issues
  • Fixed crashes when duplicating instances in Ableton Live

Creating Drum Sounds on the Telemark Synthesizer

February 8, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Creating Drum Sounds on the Telemark Synthesizer

HOW TO: Create analogue drum sounds on an Analogue Solutions Telemark synthesizer.

This brief demo features a demonstration as well as custom patch sheets for how to create basic analogue drum sounds. The resulting drums are then combined to produce a small tune featured in the video.

Note: If recreating these sounds, PAUSE the video on the patch sheet page and dial in the settings on your Telemark. It would be helpful to maximize the video to full screen and to turn on HD for clarity (and better audio).

Headphones are also recommended to hear the sub frequencies of the kick drum and other deeper percussion.

The Oberkorn 16 step sequencer was used to create the various patterns via its X/Y gate outputs. Occasionally, CV A was used to dynamically change an attribute of a sound (and is noted in the video).

An Analogue Solutions Telemetry pin matrix synth provides the aggressive, unprocessed synth line under the drums.

Get the grips with “noteplex”

February 8, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Get the grips with “noteplex”

noteplex offers a new and unique way to create and experience music. In noteplex, you see the music happen before your eyes.

noteplex presents composers with a hexagonal board of cells on which can be placed nodes. A noteplex song begins when the first node fires a pulse. These pulses hit other nodes, which play their sounds and fire more pulses. Those new pulses hit other nodes, and so on. You’re hearing a noteplex song!

45 Oberheim SEM Sounds

I really like my Oberheim SEM. This is my second one, still can’t figure out why I sold the first one. It sounds extremely good and I just wish I had another to put in that empty slot to the right of mine. Now that the re-issue is out I just might! Also, below there is space for some patch panels to access all the goodies inside the SEM via it’s patch points. I just realized there’s room for some Euro modules too.

This video shows some of the capabilities of this little monster.

Turn Your Body Into a Musical Instrument

Turn Your Body Into a Musical Instrument – Tomy Ningen Gakki

Up to four people can play together, by holding the silver parts. When the players touch each other’s skin, sounds are created.

The way this works is: When any two of the four electrodes touch, it creates a sound. The current is conducted through the players’ bodies.

The console determines where the four electrodes are in contact, and creates a different tone depending on the position.
