3D meets the vibraphone – impressive performance

Extending the acoustic vibraphone by embedding 3D gesture recognition using the Kinect. Kinect-Max/MSP (Kinect Datastream-OSC-MIDI)- controlling filter parameters in Ableton Live to modulate the acoustic audio input from the vibraphone in real-time. Developed by Gabrielle Odowichuk and Shawn Trail @ MISTIC.
Sibelius goes iPad
Avid has just announced its first app for the Apple iPad — Avid Scorch, available now at the App Store.
With Scorch, a sheet music app powered by Avid’s Sibelius music notation software engine, musicians, producers and arrangers can now purchase sheet music and access their Sibelius files on the go. Scorch transforms the iPad into an interactive score library, music stand and sheet music store.
Avid Scorch reportedly offers a rich, interactive experience designed to make scores easy to learn and play. Musicians and music students can learn songs or adapt them to their instrument by transposing a score, changing instruments, or converting to and from guitar tab — then perform them using Music Stand mode, which offers a full display of the sheet music on the iPad. Users can also see the score played on the Keyboard display, hear music played back and speed it up or slow it down.
Scorch offers access to popular sheet music through an in-app store with more than 150,000 premium titles available from world-class publishers. Composers and arrangers should find the app useful as well. Says Scorch user and producer/composer Doug LeBow:
“Having access to all of my Sibelius files as well as being able to manipulate them on my iPad is simply fantastic. Who needs a laptop when Scorch’s great sound set and playback capabilities have made my Sibelius library truly portable and useful on the go.”
Another Scorch user, Spotlight Music Inc owner John Wales, offered his impressions: “I have found Scorch to be an excellent companion to Sibelius. With Scorch, I no longer have to worry about dragging out my laptop to view scores. I have even used Scorch while performing live with various ensembles. Who needs to drag out a pile of paper? I turn on my tablet and it’s all there — no digging required.”
Vintage Compressors: Sidechain & Ducking FX

In addition to the lgendary vintage character sound, the Vintage Compressors have been updated with a sidechain input, for the well-known ‘pumping’ sound of modern club music. The VC 76, VC 2A and VC 160 are painstakingly accurate emulations of three of the most heavily-used compressors in studio history. Each has its own unmistakable sound, and thanks to added sidechaining and parallel compression.

Playing the piano with Percussa AudioCubes
In this short demo video, Percussa AudioCubes is used to automatically generate multiple piano melodies, using the new generative music software created for the AudioCubes by Percussa. Each cube uses a different groove and a limited number of notes to play its melody. All notes are in the same scale, so you don’t need to know the details of the scale to create music in harmony. By turning a cube you can choose a different groove. Cubes are placed next to the green PLAY cube to start playback.
By placing cubes next to each other, you can make them adapt to each other’s melody automatically. The notes generated by the AudioCubes and software is sent via MIDI to the General MIDI synthesizer available for free with Windows or Mac OSX. Because every AudioCube plays a different melody and they are all related in tempo and in key, the result is “four hand piano music”.

Raider is a 2 oscillator modulation sequencer based synthesizer. Raider allows you to modulate pitch and filter cutoff via two step sequencers. Each sequencer allows one to simply draw in their own pitch and filter modulations or use one of the pre-configured templates. Both sequencers are tempo synced and the filter sequencer can be switched on or off. Raider makes sounds suitable for techno, electro, house, breakbeat, glitch and many other styles. Sounds are remanecent of the 303 and 8-bit game sounds of the 1980’s and one can produce a wide range of sounds from FX and screaming acid leads to Arps and house grooves to percussion and a whole lot more.
