CLOUT! : ALAN SUGAR VS. SANTA IN SPACE
Here is a piece created by CLOUT! made using a Korg Mono/poly and Synare 3. Advantages of the Korg for this particular track are the synths ability to play polyphony and it’s 4 oscillators, which allow for a very rich and luscious timbre.
Alan Sugar has a gun, but knows Santa in space has magic powers and can melt his gun. So Alan sugar is basically blaggin’ the whole thing. Alan Sugar’s second weapon is money; so he throws money at Santa in space. Santa is having none of it. Alan Sugar ends up sacrificing himself to Santa in space’s power, shooting himself in the chestnuts.
Alan Sugar’s burst sperm sacks got his money wet. Not only was he a dead man, he also remained a very poor man…
Nobody likes a spunky tennar.
Holst Mars on Sound Lab Mark II and ULTIMATE
“This is multi-track MIDI driving MIDI to CV which drives the Sound Lab Mark II and the Sound Lab ULTIMATE. All MIDI was broken down to mono tracks and each played through the MIDI to CV convertor. I set each patch to what I thought sounded good in the position and I think in the end it seems to work. I tweaked and tweaked and tweaked and… I’ll stop there. ALL sounds are purely from the MIDI driven synths. Reverb was applied during mix down. I’ll stop there. I used SONAR Producer to mix down the tracks (well over 60 stereo) and I think that along with the video it’s decently cool. I forgot to mention that I designed and built the synthesizers. If you want to build one go to musicfromouterspace with a dot and then the obligatory com for plans and PC boards.”
Remember it’s only a hobby but making music with synths is what got me into it so very long ago. Gustav Holst has fired my imagination since I first heard “The Planets”. If you haven’t heard it by a symphony you don’t know what you’re missing. I really hope you think of this as true “Music From Outer Space”
Remixing Jean Michel Jarre’s famouse “Oxygene” track

NAMM: Video feat MacBeth’s MICROMAC 1 – TEST 1
Here are the details:
Hi there- this is the first *test* of the macbeth micromac- measuring just over a mere 8″ wide- it whacks a punch! This is the first demo that I’ve done of this 3 Oscillator pure analogue synthesizer and on this video- I’m getting to try out a couple of things. Oscillators 1 and 3 have direct outputs to left and right- the filter section has Oscillators, 1, 2 snd 3 pitched 1 octave apart, and a fifth! I guess then I lose the plot and try other things! Anyway- I put up because some folks have wanted to hear it! The micromac is a project that started well over a year ago….and now it is complete! I’m using the all analogue Vortex keyboard to play this thing!

Technical details below. Pricing and availability are to be announced.
Koneko MIDI to CV Eurorack Module Features:
- CV1 PITCH output 0 to +5 Volt range (5 octaves) it comes from a very accurate 12 bit resolution (4096 steps) digital to analog converter DAC, which translates the incoming midi note messages to voltage. It also responds to the pitch bend or pitch wheel control, according to the midi standard it has a range of +/- two half steps.
- Glide effect, it affects the CV1 PITCH output.
- Gate output 0 or +5 Volt. it has a red LED that indicates when there is an active gate signal.
- CV2 output 0 to +5 Volt range, it comes from a 7 bit resolution (128 steps) digital to analog converter, it can be easily set to output the velocity or any controller CC from the midi device.
- PROGRAM button allows you easily set the midi channel just by pushing it and then pushing a note in your midi keyboard, the midi channel will be automatically set and stored even when the unit is turn off. It also allows you to set the controller CC for the CV2 output, just push the Program button and move any controller in your midi device and it will be set automatically.
- Midi In and Midi Thru connectors, allows you to connect many midi devices in chain.
The Koneko Eurorack module is officially ‘available soon’.
KOE Eurorack Module Features:
- One VCO with square and ramp wavefoms with depth and tune controls, tune control is a ten turn potentiometer which allows you easily set octave, tune and fine tune with
- just one knob.
- Noise sourse, it can be set to affect the VCO frequency or it can be mixed with the VCO and audio input.

New free Ableton Live Pack – Snake Drum Synth
This is a little jam with a couple of instances of an Ableton Live Instrument created with samples of a snake drum. The original snake drum had 6 notes. This instrument is spread across the entire keyboard, with some interesting artifacts in the lower and higher extremes. Some interesting macro knob mappings make this an extremely versatile little virtual instrument!
Download it here: http://bit.ly/freesynth42
Background info:
My good friend Mike, singer/guitarist of NY rock band My Summer, has this cool percussive instrument that I believe is called a snake drum (at least that’s what it says on the bottom of it). Basically, it’s a hollow wooden box with little cuts in the wood. These cuts in the wood are struck with a mallet creating a musical tone. It’s a pretty simple idea that has probably been around for thousands of years and winds up sounding a lot like a marimba or wooden xylophone. It is severely limited in that it only has six notes, but it has a sound that transports you into some kind of ancient tribal ceremony. Mike asked me to show him how I go about building my own Ableton Live instruments, so we decided to sample this snake drum.
We mic’d it up with his brand new RE20 and went to town. The final instrument you hear is made up of all six tones layered on top of each other, which really thickens it out, and all of those layers really bring out the sound of the room we were in.
Once inside Ableton, I added some effects and controls that gave this instrument as much versatility as possible. The first two controls affect the FM Modulation. These allow you to seriously alter the timbre to all sorts of sonic extremes. Next I added a Redux, which at its most extreme setting, miraculously transforms this ancient instrument into something reminiscent of the the arcade in your average bowling alley in 1985. I’ve added reverb and a spread control for creating space and special effects. By playing with the pitch envelope macro knob, you can change the attack sound of the instrument from sounds similar to a steel drum all the way to bass drums and electronic disco tom toms. Finally, I placed a Ping-Pong Delay, set to repitch mode, for anyone who loves those warping stretch sounds of old analog delays.
Now because of the limited range of the original instrument, some interesting things start happening when you play the virtual instrument in the extreme high and low octaves. Drop down a few octaves and you have an incredibly heavy bass sound, similar to my Tuned 808 Ableton Pack, but with a certain organic character. Try playing around with the pitch envelop and you can achieve some awesome bass drum sounds. When you crank up to the highest octaves, these interesting insect like sounds start happening. I found some really far out sounds by simultaneously playing around with the FM Oscillator controls.
This is the real beauty of sound design. Such a simple instrument can be digitally mangled into something completely unrecognizable and out of this world. Mike and I spent sometime fooling around with the controls, and recorded the crazy noises we made and then resampled those into a drum rack. I’ve included this drum rack and called it “Snake Bites.” These are just some insane glitchy bits that were created with this instrument in a matter of minutes. You can see me play around with those in the video, as I trigger them with my Launchpad (which is painted red). Check out the video, all the sounds you hear are made with this instrument. I included the clips I created in the download so you can mess around with them for yourself.
