This technique is commonly used in studios where people are recording electric guitars where they want to capture the sound of the guitar coming out of the amplifier. In this case I’m using it for a slightly non-traditional application to add some texture and noise to make my piano feel more like an old sample and less like a digital instrument. I’ve used this technique with amplifiers to add interest to cheap sounding casio keyboards and other ‘fake sounding’ digital sources. The basics are that we create a sound and then play it out of something, either an amplifier or a speaker and then re-record the results. In this case I’m running it out of my speakers to add some room noise and then mixing that back in with the original clean signal. Hopefully this inspires you to create your own interesting recordings and some life and dirt to your clean digital sounds. — Matt Shadetek

The unit might have a toy feeling – but it could absolutely could have a place as a secondary controller for those looking for a very handheld unit to add to their setup. The controller has attachments that will allow it to be worn around the neck, a belt, or in other ways that make it easy to access.
The comparisons to a video game controller are the most apt in terms of controls as well – with trigger controls on either shoulder of the unit. The mappings on display at the Numark booth weren’t anything to write home about, but we found ourselves easily imagining some cool jogwheel based effects for the controller.

Bebot is a feature packed polyphonic synthesiser that was the very first music app to fully utilise the full touch screen to control the sound. It has a single oscillator with 4 waveform choices and a sub oscillator with another 4 waveform options, including both one and two octave options below the main oscillator. It also offers distortion, chorus and echo effects, as well as y axis expression within the settable timbre/resonant range, and great sounding filters. There are 25 presets to get started with, but you can also save your own creations. It comes with scale presets and the option to create your own custom scales so you can simply slide your finger across the screen without playing the wrong notes. Another great feature is the ability to Autotune each note to varying degrees or choose not to use Autotune to get that great fretless sound. Bebot also is AudioBus compatible for use in the input slot, so you can directly record your performances into other compatible apps.
