April 24, 2013 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Electric Life Form

A self perpetuating generative patch on Quijote Cinemusica’s  Yusynth/Mfos home made Modular Synthesizer.

The LFO is being used as clock for the sequencer and for the Sample and hold which is in turn modulating the LFO speed effectively creating a random clock. 4 oscillators modulated by the S&H, 2 of which are also being modulated by the 10 step sequencer. Moog filter on the left, Arp on the right, MFOS minisynth MKII in the middle. Original EH Memory Man analog delay and EH Holy Stain reverb.

Emulating the King – Introducing Native Instruments’ MONARK

April 24, 2013 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Emulating the King – Introducing Native Instruments’ MONARK

The Minimoog is probably the most famous hardware synthesizer of all time—and likely the most emulated in the world of software. So does the world really need another Minimoog emulation? Native Instruments thinks so: Their new REAKTOR-based synth, MONARK, is based on years of research—but how does it sound?

Taking a closer look at Korg Lambda

April 24, 2013 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Taking a closer look at Korg Lambda

This is a small demo from the Korg Lambda ES-50, together with the Roland TR-77. Played by hand with multitrack recording.
Beside some reverb and delay, some lines from the Lambda were also played through the Electro Harmonix Small Stone Phaser.

The Lambda ES50 is a vintage poly-ensemble type synthesizer with slightly editable Preset orchestral sounds. It is divided into two sections: The Percussion set includes Preset pianos, clavis and harmonics; The Ensemble section has Presets for brass, strings, organ and choruses. Filter and envelope controls affect the different instruments individually. The Lambda has 96 discrete envelopes and VCAs – two for each key – a very unusual design. There are also vibrato and chorus effects.

The Percussion group and Ensemble group each have their own separate outputs which is nice. A joystick is proveded left of the keyboard for simultaneous control of pitch bends and chorus phase speed.

The String sounds are the nicest sounds this synth can create. With three oscillators you can vary and detune them enough to get a nice layered analog string. Piano and Brass sounds are pretty cheesy. The Lambda is cased in a great big wooden case that gives it that authentically vintage status. It’s nice to have around, but a good sample of it is all you’ll really need these days.
