Tutorial – How to connect your apps with Audiobus and VocaLive
See VocaLive (with iRig MIC for vocal input) and AmpliTube (with iRig HD as input for guitar and bass) with great apps like Audiobus (of course) and GarageBand in this great video. See how easy it is to connect VocaLive with other apps that are compatible with Audiobus.
Audiobus (from Audiobus Pty Ltd) allows the processing and output of audio apps to be used in real time with other apps, thus “connecting” them much like audio cables connect pieces of gear. Singers can now use VocaLive to add stunning vocal effects to their recordings in other apps like AmpliTube or GarageBand, or add instrumentation from other apps to their recordings in VocaLive.
VocaLive for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and AmpliTube for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch are now Audiobus compatible. Audiobus is a groundbreaking new app (developed by A Tasty Pixel in cooperation with Audanika) that allows users to connect the audio of multiple apps, opening up countless new sonic possibilities. For example Audiobus lets users send audio out of one app, filter it through the next one in the chain, and receive it in the third. Vocals can be run through a filter or multifx; or a synth could be looped by a looper and its output sent to a recorder; or an electric piano could be run through a guitar multi-FX app and then into a sampler — all in real time.

Livid Base: Experimenting with Max for Live
Livid started some experiments with Max For Live step sequencers and the Livid Base. These are extremely rudimentary, but because they can be accessed with Device control, they are very powerful and easy to work with. Control of these step sequencers is as simple as pointing the controller to the device using the Base Remote Script for Ableton Live 9 in Device mode. One you navigate to a module, it acts as a “super device” handing off the pads and sliders to the Max for Live patch. While these little toys won’t be a “final” product, we’ll have something for you to play with soon!

Arturia Minibrute vs Korg MS-20 Mini
A new video, via Verifyhuman, captures a “budget monophonic synthesizer smackdown”:
It’s a budget monophonic synthesizer smackdown: How does the new Korg MS-20 Mini compare against the Arturia Minibrute? A veiny arm takes you through the oscillators of these beasts to see just how similar / different they are.
I made the video as a scientific response to the bevy of forum discussions and questions regarding the two. For those in the market for a budget monosynth but only wish to buy one, I hope the video can remove some of the subjectivity and let the listener determine what sounds better to them. No audio editing or effects were added to the raw sound.
Questions? Opinions? Video comparison requests? Leave them in the comments below.

LE STRUM – MIDI Strummed Chord Controller Kit
If you could breed an Omnichord with a Stylophone you might end up with some of these babies….
Use combinations of the buttons to select a chord type (maj, min, 7, maj7, min7, dim, aug) and root note. The chord is then mapped across the pads, which you play with a wired stylus, sending output by MIDI.
This is an old idea of mine that I’ve now turned into an open hardware kit, so anyone can make one. The updated firmware has some new goodies like guitar open chord fingerings, chord variations (sus4, add6, add9), two channel lead + chord drone and control over velocity.
Kit is available for purchase on Tindie at https://www.tindie.com/products/hotch… and the firmware/hardware source code is on GitHub at https://github.com/hotchk155/Voici-Le…
