Playing the Wurlitzer SideMan (vintage 1950’s drummachine) with MIDI retrofit

July 21, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Playing the Wurlitzer SideMan (vintage 1950’s drummachine) with MIDI retrofit

The SideMan is a drum machine from 1959 that fires valves/tubes to generate the tones, which are then passed trough a tube amp. The cigar box houses Doepfer MTC components and a direct line out. Interconnect is over DB37, fed into the SideMan from underneath. No drilling or irreversible mods were done to the SideMan, although I did tweak it a bit to get a longer decay from the kick bass.

A lot of thanks to Eric Noel, who gave his time, expertise and some of the Doepfer components to this project; and to Steve Craig (Midwest Music Menders), who patiently repaired the SideMan when I acquired it in “almost working” condition.

Introducing The Beatdown, the latest virtual instrument from Sonic Faction.

“The Beatdown is an amazing versatile DRUM MACHINE for Ableton Live! We crafted The Beatdown from the ground up, giving users superior sound quality and unprecedented control. We started by sampling the Elektron Machine Drum and rebuilding it inside of Ableton, staying true to the instrument’s unique design. Inspired by the flexibility of our new instrument, we then added 6 additional drum kits that cover all of the most popular dance music genres. It’s styles range from Analog Hip Hop madness, to fresh House beats, to viscous Dubstep wobbles and Experimental glitches. The result is a slamming drum machine that will have you dropping next level beats instantly.”

Mikrosonic RD3 Groovebox HD Demo – Android Test – HTC EVO

June 24, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Mikrosonic RD3 Groovebox HD Demo – Android Test – HTC EVO

“I downloaded the app from Mikrosonic called “RD3 HD Demo” and started messing around with it. It was pretty easy to figure out and fun to use. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to play around with a looping/drum machine. The only bothersome thing is that you can’t save your sessions and an ad pops up every few minutes to encourage you to buy the full app. Which makes sense because this is the free version of the app and just lets you get a taste for what it can really do.”

RD3 – Groovebox is a high quality audio application for Android devices that is easy to use. It combines a 303-style synthesizer and a drum machine with different drum kits. Create grooves on-the-go with these machines that defined the sound of early electronic dance music.
