Beatmaking with iMaschine and Ableton Live

August 30, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Beatmaking with iMaschine and Ableton Live

Video details below:

http://www.pointblankonline.net/ In the next 3 episodes in our ‘Making Music with Apps’ series Danny J Lewis shows you how you can put together professional sounding tracks on the move. In this tutorial he starts off with the beatmaking using Native Instrument’s iMaschine.

This approach is all about making the most of the unique qualities of each app and recording the results into Ableton as audio clips. The advantage is that you are committing the sound that you have made to audio so there is no temptation to endlessly fiddle with the synth parameters or the intricacies of the midi patterns and you can get on with the task of arranging the parts to make that banging tune that your 8 bar loop had promised!

July 24, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Raw Voltage – new Maschine Expansion featuring sounds of a huge modular synthesizer system

Native Instruments today introduced Raw Voltage – a new Maschine Expansion which features the sound of a huge modular synthesizer system. Raw Voltage contains kits, instruments and patterns based on the organic sound characteristics of analog synthesis.

Here are all the details from NI:

Sampled from a one-of-a-kind analog modular system, RAW VOLTAGE has a wide sonic scope, inspired in part by experimental and avant-garde electronica. The drum and percussion sounds are punchy, loud and direct, while the sampled basses, leads, pads and soundscapes are rich in detail and analog atmosphere.

The expansion also includes 140 expertly-programmed patterns, providing a wide selection of styles from broken, jagged rhythms to steady, flowing grooves.

Raw Voltage is based on a unique custom modular system used and created by Norwegian synthesist Roger Grønberg (Frodebeats). The system includes modules from Modcan, MOTM, Oakley, CGS, STG, Encore, Buchla plus many unique custom and DIY modules, as well as analog synthesizers like Arp Odyssey/2600 and Korg MiniKorg 700s.

A compact version of Raw Voltage is also available for iMaschine for iPhone.

Raw Voltage is available at the NI Online Shop for $59/49 EUR. For owners of iMASCHINE, the compact version of Raw Voltage is available via in-app purchase for $0.99/0,79 EUR.

Having a bit of improv with some new kit. The bassline is done with the original MeeBlip; there are four two-measure MIDI clips in Ableton, and I’m randomly switching amongst them using follow actions. All drum and percussion sounds were created on a Yamaha TX81Z, then imported to and edited in the Maschine software.

Gear used: MeeBlip, MeeBlipSE, Native Instruments Maschine Mikro, SammichFM, DSI TETR4, Eventide Space, Eventide TimeFactor. Recorded with Ableton Live in one pass of live improv.

Steve Lawler on Dark Pressure

February 14, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Steve Lawler on Dark Pressure

DJ/Producer Steve Lawler (VIVa MUSiC, UK/Ibiza) puts several of his exclusive patterns from the Dark Pressure Maschine Expansion to use in the studio and the club. All of the grooves heard in this video are from Dark Pressure.

DARK PRESSURE focuses on percussive one-shot samples and a wealth of exclusive pre-programmed patterns – many created by Steve Lawler himself. Fine-tuned for powerful club sound systems, DARK PRESSURE puts an impressive array of four-on-the-floor rhythms at your fingertips – from full-on energy to hypnotic groove and triplet-driven swing.

This is also the first MASCHINE Expansion to include pre-sliced percussion loops (64) for instant remixing. These loops are a source of inspiration when you’re composing, and a great way to apply some additional layered rhythms to your productions.
