MeldaProduction release free MNoiseGenerator

November 15, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on MeldaProduction release free MNoiseGenerator

MeldaProduction tell us that MNoiseGenerator is a simple noise generator. It can be used as a testing generator for analyses or, thanks to the integrated modulators, for some creative effects.

Features

  • 4 global modulators – in each instance you can have up to 4 fully-featured modulators that can modulate any set of parameters including other modulators! In this way you can make the sound move in time, be less static and more interesting. Each modulator works as LFO, follower, midi/audio triggered ADSR envelopes, a pitch detector or even a combination.
  • M/S, single channel, up to 8 channels surround processing – our plugins can handle not only mono and stereo signals, but also mono/stereo encoding, separate channels and encodings, and up to 8 channels of surround audio, which makes them ideal for audio production for movies, games etc.
  • Extremely advanced and easy-to-use user interface – our products are always designed to enhance the workflow. You can easily change all values, fine-tune each control in multiple ways. Easy orientation in a standardized GUI, textual editing and smooth visualization with almost unlimited zooming are standard in all of our plugins. Moreover our plugins are the world first (and still the only ones), which support resizable and stylable GUI’s.
  • MIDI controllers with MIDI learn – you can map any parameter to any MIDI controller or MIDI keyboard and control it realtime or record and automate it.
  • Very fast, optimized for SSE and SSE2 processors.
  • Global preset management and online preset exchange – using a title button you can save your settings (which are shared on the computer) so you can easily access these in other songs. Moreover all plugins can automatically share your presets and download presets of other users from our servers (if this feature is enabled). We are building a community and you can be a part of it!
  • Fully automatable.

New Ableton Live Rack featuring lots of Noises, Risers, Swooshes and more

June 29, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

This weeks Ableton Live Rack is a collection of white noise swooshes, risers, falling synths, and other useful transitional sounds.

They are great for adding tension or creating releases. Most were created with either virtual synths or sampled synths, and some sounds were sampled from old video games. These are some of the exact sounds I use during my live performances to add anything from anticipation, signaling a change, or creating atmosphere. I have added a bunch of useful effects. These are explained in the video, as well as a quick demonstration of how I might use them on a track, although for the sake of example, I may be slightly overdoing it. Enjoy and Share :)  **Non Live users: You can use the samples in your DAW of choice**

So much of our enjoyment in life relies on tension and release, and music is no different. This weeks free Ableton Live Rack is designed to help build that tension and release in your music.  I’ve created a bunch of white noise risers and fallers, sampled some choice sounds from old video games, and created synths that climb and fall many octaves over time.  Many of these sounds have been staples of dance and electronica for years, but more and more, as genres of music mix together, I find these sounds as useful in rock music as they are in anything else.  Experiment with them.  Use them to alert the listener to changes that are approaching, and to smooth out transitions.

Many of these sounds are the exact ones I use in my live performances, and they can work wonders whether entering or leaving a chorus, switching to a new song, or just as something to get the audience to make some noise of their own.  I’ve added some effects that lend themselves nicely to all this swooshing around.  There’s Flanger, Phaser, Reverb, Delay, AutoPan, Bit Crusher and a Beat Repeat that allows you to further destroy the sound.  In the video, I explain how it all works and demonstrate some ways to (over)use the AfroDJMac Noises, Risers, Swooshes Rack.  Use and abuse; enjoy and share.

Crazy 258v Cross Mods

Beautiful noise coming from the 258 :-)

Modulating the two channels or the 258 with each other opens up for a lot of new and interesting timbres as I recently learned. I liked the 258v as I played it before but this is really cool.

Modular: Modcan Vocoder 71B and a Synth Tech MOTM-101

May 30, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Modular: Modcan Vocoder 71B and a Synth Tech MOTM-101

The Vocoder 71B is a solid DSP interpretation of the classic Vocoder effect. Analogue Vocoders that offer an adequate number of filter bands can be a challenge to manufacture with high parts count, large circuit boards and enclosures and lengthy calibration procedures. All of which adds up to high costs and large dimensions. The 71B attempts to address this, providing the most important features of a mid range Vocoder in a small package ideal for a modular environment.

To keep the footprint small we chose a simple “tone” knob which provides a “tilt” like control that scales the high and low bands with center position being flat. This method combines considerable space saving and versatility without the need for individual sliders for band levels. It also makes it possible to have with voltage control. The filter/envelope detector network uses ten 4 pole 24dB band pass filters which we found to provide good frequency isolation, important for clarity when used with vocals or speech. Also works very well processing Drum loops and other sources.

In this video:

This is just two modules, a Modcan Vocoder 71B and a Synth Tech MOTM-101 noise source. The EV dynamic mic goes through a Shure mic pre and then to the vocoder, along with some pink noise. Having the speakers up a bit was causing some feedback that helped produce some of the sustain and depth.

Advanced Noise Removal

May 27, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Advanced Noise Removal

Marie Ebbing & Jonathon Stevens offer advanced noise removal services for music and film post production using a suite of tools by the software developer Algorithmix. These noise removal tools are divided into 2 categories, broadband — including surface noise, hiss & hum; and transient — including camera hydraulics, coughs, page turns and other instantaneous noises.

Their use of these tools extends into the non-standard as well. They can remove unwanted dialog and music from stereo or multi-channel master recordings. Rebalancing or complete removal of instruments in a master recording is also possible and on occasion pitch correction to a specific instrument in a mix. All of this is done with the utmost respect to the sound quality of your original master.

Projects that have benefited from their noise removal services include:

Tron: Legacy, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Capitalism, Public Enemies, San Francisco Symphony’s Keeping Score Series, The Lord of the Rings: Complete Music Boxed sets

This is a demo of the Pittsburgh Modular Generator synthesizer module. The Generator is a dual oscillator built around two triangle core, wide range, periodic waveform generators. Ideal as the basis for tuned percussion/noise, abrasive amplitude, frequency and timbral modulation. Tones, drones and textures. As a multipurpose signal generator, Generator can provide the basis of a wide range of complex sounds from drums to atonal, nintendo zipper/fart noises. This module was made for FM madness.

The Generator is modulated by a Doepfer A-145 LFO.

Filter Beats

Background info:

I wanted to see if I could create a beat using only a filter and a white noise source. What I ended up creating was more of a bassline once the Filter was fully resonant.
Here is the result in a high quality audio.
