Nice demonstration of a Multi-Touch Piano Keyboard
This video demonstrates a set of capacitive touch sensing piano key tops which mount on top of any existing piano or MIDI keyboard. The key tops sense up to three touches each by position and contact area, letting the performer continuously and polyphonically shape every note in multiple dimensions. The system connects to a computer by USB and uses OSC for flexible communication with a wide variety of synthesis software.

This Ableton Live Rack was created by sampling my piano with the Singing Fingers iPad app and then sampling that into Ableton Live. The result is a glitchy piano pad type sound. Enjoy!
I’ve been experimenting with various apps on the iPad, and one of my favorite ones is a sampling app called Singing Fingers. This app records sound as you draw on the iPad with your finger. You then play the sounds back by tracing over what you have drawn. The sound changes depending on how fast and which direct you move your finger. It’s very easy to use, creates interesting sounds, and is fun. So, I decided to record some notes from my piano (the same piano from my reverse piano rack) into the app, and then I sampled the result into Ableton. By nature, the app has a granular-glitch type sound to it, and this is pretty evident in the sound of the rack I have created, “AfroDJMac’s Glitched Piano.” Have fun with it!

How the city of Eindhoven is turned into music
Who wouldn´t want one of these at home? A physical model of the city of Eindhoven is rolled onto a drum and attached to a piano. Buildings with each a unique form and dimension hit the piano keys. The tall buildings in the city centre have a heavy touch; the low-rise villas to the South create considerably gentler sounds.

Playing the piano with Percussa AudioCubes
In this short demo video, Percussa AudioCubes is used to automatically generate multiple piano melodies, using the new generative music software created for the AudioCubes by Percussa. Each cube uses a different groove and a limited number of notes to play its melody. All notes are in the same scale, so you don’t need to know the details of the scale to create music in harmony. By turning a cube you can choose a different groove. Cubes are placed next to the green PLAY cube to start playback.
By placing cubes next to each other, you can make them adapt to each other’s melody automatically. The notes generated by the AudioCubes and software is sent via MIDI to the General MIDI synthesizer available for free with Windows or Mac OSX. Because every AudioCube plays a different melody and they are all related in tempo and in key, the result is “four hand piano music”.

Toy Piano – new sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt
AudioThing has released Toy Piano, a sample library for Native Instruments Kontakt.
I always wanted a Toy Piano like Schroeder’s, from Peanuts. I finally got this lovely 2-octaves upright toy piano and I could not resist to sample it and start making sound design. The sound of the piano is produced by metal bars stroke by plastic hammers, almost like a glockenspiel but more deep and warm. The Toy Piano was sampled with the lid both closed and open and percussions samples have been recorded playing the wood case of the Toy Piano with hands, nylon brushes and rubber mallets. There are also two ambient/pad/drone instruments created using samples start/loop tricks and a bunch of effects, both with a custom, tweakable, GUI.

Virtual Piano Library Comparison – what to buy
This is the first in a series of demos of Grand Piano/Upright Piano/Elec Piano/Organ Libraries. I have assembled here a collection of Yamaha pianos, all demoed with the same MIDI file, “Grand Illusion” by Jordan Rudess. This song always impressed me with its incredible dynamic range, and I thought it a great clip to display the power of a Grand Piano. I selected this clip because of how it demonstrates the full range of dynamics across nearly the entire keyboard.

Improvisation on piano and monome. I’m using a hand-built arc prototype, generously on loan from tehn, who is very busy building and shipping monomes, dealing with the transition to serialosc required by the new edition and finalizing the arc firmware. I’m sure he’d prefer to be playing with the arc himself.
