Not just another simple VA synthesizer – Alphatron

September 3, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Not just another simple VA synthesizer – Alphatron

Alphatron is not just a simple VA synthesizer instead in using a 3rd oscillator with digital waves it does offer a lot more variation. Thus it can do analogstyle sounds reminding of the old Moog and Prophet days but also merge this with the digital realm in various ways to achieve sounds beyond.

Another big highlight of Alphatron is the versatile step sequencer with 8 + 4 pattern slots which can be selected at realtime for instant pattern switching.
Plus Step Variation which is in fact aonther 16 step sequencer to set different number of steps to be played in succession. Two alternating semitone offsets can be set e.g. for each 2nd, 3rd or 4th loop.

Main features (based on Pro version):

  • 1 VA Oscillator with up to 6 poly waves for Saw, Ramp, Sine, Tri, and Pulse
  • 1 VA Oscillator with single waves as above plus white and pink noise, Sync slave
  • 1 Sample Osccillator with fairly typical digital waves with different hamonic content, Sync master
  • 1 Amplitude Modulation with dedicated output
  • 1 24 dB resonant Low Pass filter with dedicated ADSR EG, 4 mixable mod sources
  • 1 VCA EG
  • Note: Both EG have 3 modes: exponential, reverse exponential, and linear; and optional control for Attack and Decay by velocity

  • 1 Booster or Enciter selectable
  • 1 Mystify with three selctable types (Brite, Soft, Dark)
  • 1 bpm synced Delay with adjustable Offset controlled manually or by modsource, Pan
  • 1 Bass Boost
  • 1 Pan for undelayed signal
  • 1 small Reverb for adding some nice flavour
  • 1 Saturator
  • 1 main Volume
  • 3 x LFO, 1 x Duo LFO (with two waves and phase control for 2nd wave), 1 x S&H
  • 1 Pitch LFO with option to speed up or down the LFO speed
  • 16 Step Seqencer with Shuffle for notes and velocity plus mute buttons for each step.
  • incl 8 pattern slots per patch and 4 global pattern slots for instant changes
  • 3 Wheels
  • Aftertouch as selectable modsource
  • 8 Lazy buttons
  • 8 GUI variants selectable
  • 128 patches

New emulation of the legendary SID chip

September 2, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on New emulation of the legendary SID chip

HyperSynth has announced the release of SIDizer, a new emulation of the legendary SID chip in the form of a modern software synthesizer plug-in.

    SIDizer

Using circuit modeling technology, nearly all the unique features of the two versions (6581-8580) of the SID chip, including their famous flaws, are accurately modeled. This emulation focuses on simulating the nonlinear character of the SID filter and mimicking special 6581 distortion that mainly influences the alternation of the filtered signal in a real SID chip. It offers additional envelopes, LFOs, mod matrix and a routable bit-cruncher for adding extra lo-fi sound quality.

SIDizer’s GUI is inspired by HyperSynth’s HyperSID and offers easy tweaking for all parameters on a single page. It is not only a powerful instrument for creating the chip-tune style but it can produce a unique type of analog sound colored with harmonic distortion that is suited for creating bass, lead and drum sounds.

    Features:

    • 3 oscillators offering 8 waveforms: Saw, Triangle, Square, Pitched noise, “AND” combinations of them.
    • Oscillators special features: ring, sync, phase sync, Sqr PW, level.
    • Selectable 6581-8580 D/A distortion.
    • 3 Amp envelopes ADSR.
    • 12 dB (LP & HP), 6 dB BP SID modeled Filter.
    • Best matched Exponential-fitted curves for 6581-8580 filter frequencies.
    • Simulating 6581 half wave filter distortion.
    • 1 Filter envelope + key track for filter freq.
    • 2 LFOs each with 4 simultaneous outputs offering sync and retriggering option.
    • 1 Mod envelope.
    • Versatile Modulation matrix.
    • Bug-generator module for reproducing famous bugs: oscillator leakage, ex-input noise.
    • Bit Cruncher with pre and post filter route option.
    • Advanced 8 step C64 like arpeggiator.
    • Master: Pitch and Mod wheel, Porta, Spread, Reverb, Delay.
    • Easy to use GUI.
    • Factory soundbank created by Torben Hansen (aka Metal of Vibrants).

    Pricing & Availability

SIDizer is currently available for the introductory price of $49 for the first 64 customers. The full price will then be $64. It is available for Windows as a VST instrument plug-in.

The increasing popularity of software synthesizers and software samplers over the past decade generated a growing interest for standardized microtuning systems based on human-readable text files containing the device microtuning data (later on referred as Tuning Interchange Documents, or TIDocs, in this document). Besides those file formats based on MIDI Tuning Standard sysex messages that can be embedded in standard binary MIDI files (.mid), some noticeable TIDoc-based solutions were also adopted to add microtonal support for commercial software synthesizers that have involved, among others, the Scala format (.scl) proposed by Manuel Op de Coul, and the AnaMark format (.tun) proposed by Mark Henning. This article focuses on the syntax requirements of the Microtuner TIDoc format (.mtx), the native file format of Max Magic Microtuner, a microtonal software developed in 2003 as a companion application for Max/MSP.

    ARP 2600 introductory video

August 27, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on ARP 2600 introductory video

The ARP 2600 is a semi-modular analog subtractive audio synthesizer, designed by Alan R. Pearlman (and Dennis Colin), and manufactured by his company, ARP Instruments, Inc. Unlike other modular systems of the time, which required modules to be purchased individually and wired by the user, the 2600 was semi-modular with a fixed selection of basic synthesizer components internally pre-wired. The 2600 was thus ideal for musicians new to synthesis due to its ability to be operated either with or without patchcords, and was, upon its initial release, heavily marketed to high schools, universities, and other educational facilities.
