Orbital are back after 8 years – listen here
Eight years after the Blue Album (2004) the British dance duo Orbital are back. The brothers Hartnoll are planning an album titled Wonky with the release date April 1. The album was mixed by Flood, known for his collaborations with Depeche Mode and U2, and even Zola Jesus is involved. The first single is called “Never”.
Contemporaries of the Chemical Brothers and Underworld, Orbital enjoyed a dazzling 15-year stint before bowing out gracefully in 2005. Raised in suburban Sevenoaks, near the M25 orbital motorway which inspired their name, Paul and Phil began honing their unique brand of homegrown electro long before the acid house boom gave British pop a much-needed kick up its baggy trousers. In their secret sound laboratory, these twin Timelords of techno produced gleaming machine-music classics that sounded like Blade Runner on a Grange Hill budget.
Between 1989 and 2004, Orbital released a string of addictive, eclectic singles including Chime, Style, Belfast, The Box and Satan. Many became evergreen club anthems. Some even became top three hits. During their seven-album career they also worked with an impressively diverse range of collaborators including electro-folk siren Alison Goldfrapp, soundtrack maestro Angelo Badalamenti and Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammet.
Meanwhile, Orbital developed an enviable live reputation, playing knockout mega-shows to huge crowds from Glastonbury and Woodstock, to the Royal Albert Hall. Their music featured on high-profile film scores including The Saint, Event Horizon and The Beach. They also remixed superstar artists including Madonna, Queen Latifah and their all-time robo-pop heroes Kraftwerk.
Since releasing their swansong Orbital opus The Blue Album and disbanding in 2004, both Hartnoll brothers have ventured into new musical territory. Paul took a more orchestral direction with his 2007 solo album The Ideal Condition, while Phil launched his short-lived collaboration project Long Range and carved a thriving career as a DJ. But they never closed the door on Orbital, and demand remains high for their fabled live shows.
“We’ve never said never,” Paul explains. “It’s something I suspected would happen, which is why we kept hold of certain key bits of odd equipment.

Front 242 takes a break and cancel concerts
This was just announced via the Alfa Matrix – the Belgian electro giants Front 242 have decided not to perform in Europe after the 1st of May 2012 and this until further notice. In a message to the label the band says that they need a (well deserved) break (to start recording a new album as well?).
This however also means – and the band has confirmed this as well – that Front 242 will not perform at the Amphi Festival 2012 in Cologne nor at the Noctural Culture Night 2012 Festival in Deutzen.
In case you think that festivals are to blame, know that the band added: “The promoters of those festivals are not responsible for this decision which is fully on Front 242′ s behalf.”

Korg has announced two new editions for its SV-1stage piano.
- SV-1 Black: The Korg SV-1 Stage Vintage Piano has been given an elegant matte black stage finish; available with 73 or 88 keys.
- SV-1 Reverse Key Limited Edition: The SV-1 Reverse Key is going to be available in a limited edition of 500 of each model.
While not a new keyboard design, the new Korg SV-1 are stylish variations on a stage piano that’s proven to be popular.

Audio Artery, aka EKS – the Finnish controller manufacturer, presents The One DJ software. The concern claims that The One is a new breed of DJ software that offers new level usability and features while staying close to the roots of DJing.
The One claims to allow “total customization of your working environment.” Choose the features you need and arrange it exactly the way you like. Everything you see on screen can be freely moved and resized.
The advanced Timeline Edit mode turns player decks into audio edit stations, in which you can chop or combine tracks or even create complete DJ mixes while the track is still playing. Just drag tracks, audio clips and samples to the timeline from the browser. Snap to grid functionality makes synchronization of clips fast and easy. The audio engine guarantees no stalling even when seeking or scratching simultaneously at minimal latencies.
The One’s modular audio routing system allows effects and mixers to be assigned to anywhere in the audio chain – meaning that effects can be placed between players and mixer, or used as master effects.
