Analogue Solutions VOSTOK MATRIXSYNTH v2 – Modular Suitcase Synth Demo

January 23, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Analogue Solutions VOSTOK MATRIXSYNTH v2 – Modular Suitcase Synth Demo

Here’s an extended look at the Analogue Solutions Vostok MATRIXSYNTH synthesizer.

This demo features a variety of sound types and sequences (traditional and non-traditional) demonstrating the Vostok’s sound palette and variety of timbres. All sounds, with exception of the obvious acoustic drums (used for context), are created on the Vostok using either traditional patching or the pin matrix — or a combination of both.

Sounds are being driven by either the on-board sequencer, MIDI sync (via GATE to CLOCK), or direct MIDI connection to a controller keyboard.

Emphasis for this video was more traditional synth sounds (basses, leads, sequences) as there are plenty of non-traditional (fx, ambient, noise) sound demonstrations on YouTube. The filter section at the heart of the Vostok was also a focal point of this video and is tweaked extensively for the various sound types.

KEY FEATURES OF VOSTOK Pure analogue voice circuitry. Suitcase style design. 22×22 matrix pin panel. Rugged Steel construction. Quality chrome catches and cool steel spring handle. Stuffed full of electronics. No front panel space is wasted. Joystick, retro-VU meter, MIDI, jack socket patch points, more, more, more!

New interview with synth pioneer Vangelis: A message of hope

January 23, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on New interview with synth pioneer Vangelis: A message of hope

The internationally celebrated Greek composer talks about the role of music in times of chaos, crisis and uncertainty.

Vangelis – conquest of paradise

Vangelis began his professional musical career working with several popular bands of the 1960s such as The Forminx and Aphrodite’s Child, with the latter’s album 666 going on to be recognized as a psychedelic “classic”. Throughout the 1970s, Vangelis composed music scores for several animal documentaries, including L’Apocalypse Des Animaux, La Fête sauvage and Opéra sauvage; the success of these scores brought him into the film scoring mainstream. In the early 1980s, Vangelis formed a musical partnership with Jon Anderson, the lead singer of progressive rock band Yes, and the duo went on to release several albums together as Jon & Vangelis. In 1981, he composed the score for the Oscar-winning film Chariots of Fire. The soundtrack’s single, “Titles”, won Vangelis the Academy Award for Best Original Music Score and also reached the top of the American Billboard.

In a career spanning over 50 years, writing and composing more than 52 albums, Vangelis is regarded by some music critics as one of the greatest composers of electronic music of all time

Motu’s Digital Performer now in version 8 – here are the details

January 23, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Motu’s Digital Performer now in version 8 – here are the details

MOTO today introduced Digital Performer 8.

The biggest DP news from the show is that version 8 now supports Windows. MOTU also debuted some other significant new features, including a new video playback engine, Punch Guard confidence recording, 14 new user interface themes, and 15 new included plug-ins. DP8 will operate in 32-bit or 64-bit mode on Mac OS X and Windows 7. On Windows, it will support VST plug-ins and Rewire.

Here’s what’s new in DP 8:

  • Punch Guard records an extra four seconds of audio before and after record passes, allowing users to edge-edit in/out points to “uncover” audio material accidentally cut off during recording. DP8’s new video engine allows full- screen viewing of full 720 or 1080 HD video clips on a primary or secondary computer monitor, or on a conventional HDMI or SDI video monitor connected to a MOTU video interface such as the HD Express or HDX-SDI.
  • Digital Performer’s Themes allow users to change the entire look of the software with one click. DP8 adds 14 new themes, including “Hi-Fi”, “Arctic”, and “None More Black”.
  • MOTU demonstrated 15 new plug-ins to be included with DP8, including two new classic guitar amp models, a bass cabinet model, several classic guitar pedals, modeled analog delay, a multi-band dynamic equalizer, a de-esser, the Subkick kick drum enhancer, and Springamabob, a modeled vintage spring reverb processor.

Digital Performer 8 is expected to ship by Spring, 2012. Pricing is TBA.

iPad support for CueMix FX

MOTU also demonstrated iPad support for CueMix FX, the mixing and effects processing engine in MOTU’s current line of audio interfaces. With a simple software update, MOTU audio interface users will be able to control the mixing and processing features in their MOTU interface from OSC-compatible iPad software, which offers graphic, multi-touch control over the hardware’s mixer, EQ, compression and reverb. iPad support for CueMix will ship as a free software update in Spring, 2012.
