Octatrack Pro Tip #2 – Part Variations and Quantized Sampling
The Octatrack has been loaded with 6 sampled Monomachine waveforms. By changing parts, the same pattern can take many different forms. The crossfader is used as a tool for making transitions. Some internal sampling will take place as well.

About the synth:
The AN1x is a powerful retro-analog synth with a really cool new feature that lets you record real-time editing and filtering and be able to store it as part of the sound! The AN1x adds a new Ribbon controller for increased real-time control. It also includes pulse width modulation, ring modulation and oscillator syncing. The AN1x may not be the next evolution of the CS1x but it is basically a more advanced synth capable of increased sound potential and quality. It has a better feeling keyboard than the CS1x as well assuming that the AN1x is for those looking for something more professional than the CS1x.
AlexB Releases “Tape and Saturators FX Pro”: Nebula Library of Four Hardware Tape Emulators
The European software developer Alessandro Boschi aka AlexB has released “Tape and Saturators FX Pro,” his latest library for the Nebula VST plugin.
Nebula, from Acustica Audio, uses libraries sampled to extremely high specifications to emulate different types of vintage gear, including equalizers, filters, microphones, preamps, compressors, reverb and generic time-variant processors.
The prices are 20.00 EUR for the library, or $25.09 USD at today’s exchange rates, and 65,00 EUR special “Welcome” price for the TSX library bundle, or $81.54 USD at today’s exchange rates.
In short, the newest release from AlexB includes:

ANM
The ANM Tape Simulator is the first product that uses the analog process for modeling complex analog circuitry entirely in the analog domain Unlike digital plug-ins or processor-based outboard gear. The result is a faithful recreation of the original response, without using the original analog hardware. The circuit has been improved and a custom dard has installed.
DTE
DTE is a homemade unit that simulates a vintage tube tape machine with a mastering tube compressor and a tube saturator stage built in. Class A design, real tape and head circuitry digitally controlled.
FTS
It’s a modern digitally controlled analog device that offers many of the “musical non-linearities” exhibited by the older tube, class A discrete, and magnetic tape mediums. The unit has several compressor “types” with fixed attacks and releases. The unis has been enhanced for better sound characteristics.
MWT (Modern White Tape FX)
The MWT provides a remarkable simulation of true tape sound through the inclusion of genuine tape drive circuitry. This emulation circuit provides the nostalgic rounding and compression usually only achieved by the use of tape. This typically offsets the harshness often found in digital recordings. Carefully sampled @96kHz and @44.1kHz in a professional recording studio with hi-quality audio and digital cables and master grade converters with audio levels perfectly matched and calibrated. They are precisely programmed without normalizing or other destructive digital processing. The programs don’t sound processed, harsh or digital as most plugins do, but instead sound like a natural extension of the original audio, gluing your tracks in the mix with an analog vibe.

AfroDJMac is back with a new Ableton rack
AfroDJMac has released a free New York Style Compressor for Ableton Live.
I have built a super handy Ableton Live audio effect rack for New York Style or Parallel Compression, and offer it to you as my newest Free Ableton Live Pack!
It works by compressing the audio (usually squashing the daylights out of it!) and mixing that processed signal with the original. The compressed signal has the fullness that a compressor offers, but the original maintains the dynamic range that the compressor can destroy. The end result is you get to have your cake and eat it too, the best of both worlds.
To achieve this effect in Ableton Live, I have built an Audio Effect Rack that has two chains: one with a Compressor (plus a Saturator for a little extra flavor), and one chain that allows the audio to pass through unaffected. The download link is below. The eight macro knobs allow for control over the most commonly used parameters (Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release…) as well as an overall volume that allows you to mix in as much of the compressed signal as you like. I particularly like this effect on drum tracks, because it beefs them up while preserving their impact. Feel free to get creative an use it on all kinds of tracks (I’ve had a lot of success with vocals and acoustic guitars).

unshine in England is precious, so when the weather is fine it feels sinful to be cooped up in a studio, I’m very lucky to have the choice, so why not choose?
When the weather is fine, I like to take a few bits of gear outside and enjoy being creative in a different environment, plus there are all sorts of other sounds to explore outdoors, and in this case, sample.
A quick video of me making beats entirely out of recordings of objects found in the garden. No previously recorded samples were used.
Capturing sounds with a vintage Sennheiser MD-21 microphone, then using the EMU SP1200 for its inimitable fidelity, then resampled and sequenced on an Akai MPC 5000.
