Propellerhead Figure 1.1 – the iOS beatmaking app just got improved
Propellerhead today updated Figure, its iOS beatmaking app, adding the most requested features.
Here’s what’s new in Propellerhead Figure 1.1:

Atlantic landing – iFretless bass midi controller on iPad / iPhone
iFretless is a new musical instrument app for iPad / iPhone. In this video you see an iPad jam session, showing how iFretless works as a MIDI controller, sending the notes we play to synthesizer apps running the background on the iPad.

Array – new AudioUnit plugin for creating rhythmic spectral effects
SineVibes has introduced Array – an AudioUnit plugin for creating rhythmic spectral effects.
Array divides the input sound using 8 finely-tuned, smooth -36 dB/octave band-pass filters, and allows to sequence each frequency band individually.
What can it do?
- Completely reconstruct and transform drum and percussion loops.
- Turn synths, basses, pads or pretty much any static sound into spectrally and rhythmically rich new material.
- Liven up final productions with intricate breaks and transitions.
Compatibility
Array works with Logic, MainStage, GarageBand, Live, Maschine, Studio One, ReNoise, Reaper, Bidule and other Mac software that supports AudioUnit effect plugins. It comes in 32/64 bit versions for both Intel and PPC, and requires OS X version 10.5 or later.

[ Arturia Minibrute ] First Improv jam with TR-909 + Frostwave Fat Controller
New video featuring the still quite hard to get Arturia MiniBrute, here’s what the author has to say about it:
“Attack of “DJ FINGERS” ! WOOoooOO *laughs* OK… If you can’t watch this with a sense of humor then just stop the video now. This is a work of fiction, it never happened in real life so no hating on how bad it is. Just messing around within the first 30minutes of me opening up the new Arturia Minibrute. Gotta say it’s lots of fun. Looking forward to exploring it a LOT more. Expect some better videos soon. There are some fun parts though in here. Youtube tells me there’s sync issues, sorry for that. Not going to fix, just going to upload more videos. This is also my first jam with the fat controller. Still learning it’s ins and outs.
I’ll tell you that off the bat it has arpeggiator issues. Be warned.”
Oxium – new performance soft synth from XILS-lab
XILS-lab has introduced a new ‘performance synthesizer’, Oxium, for Mac & WIndows.
Oxium is designed to be a performance oriented synthesizer, offering ‘awesome real time modulations capabilities, allowing you to play a synthesizer in ways you could never have imagined’.
Features:
- Classic instruments: Use up to 8 Xils-lab thick and musical oscillator wave forms per patch and shape them with the double filter structure. The main unit uses Xilslab 3rd generation zero-delay feedback filter with self-oscillation in each mode while the second offers a vocal formant mode in addition to high-pass, band-pass and low-pass modes.
- Modern instruments: In addition to the cumulative waveforms LFO there are three D-ADSR envelopes, Oxium includes the Xils-Lab Le Masque modulator, with many additional features. It has now 16 freely drawable zones, horizontal and vertical quantize modes, two level parameters and you can save, load and exchange your patterns.
- Intuitive User Interface: Oxium interface is based on a new “Flower” design and IVF (Instant Visual Feedback) concept. “Flower” design for the oscillators, filter, LFOs and glide blocks means that you can understand the structure of a whole block after a simple glance (IVF), making Oxium fun, fast and easy to understand and to master. In addition, all the modulations are all handled in a central page, with additional easy knobs, including usual musical gestures per patch.
- Serial only protected: Oxium is protected by a simple serial, without the need of any hardware dongle or chalenge response.

Full description:
Audible color is an audio-visual instrument. Sound is generated based on color detected by a web cam connected to a computer. Red, green and blue correspond with certain music notes. When the colors are mixed, the resulting secondary colors produce different notes. The size of the colors influences the volume and frequency of the notes played. Color detection and sound generation were created and are controlled using Processing code.
The system of audible color is based on a marriage between basic color and music theories. The colors of red, blue, and green are the visual foundation for color-mixing and the music notes A, D, and F are the base triad that corresponds to the colors. The secondary colors (colors made when the foundational three are mixed) of purple, teal and brown are tuned to the musical triad C, E and G. The visual of the mixing of red, blue and/or green mirrors the aural output of combined notes.
The ‘painting’ aspect is not restricted to water droplets from a pipette. Numerous experiments were performed using substances such as acrylic paint, food dye in milk with soap, and ordinary household objects. Each investigation created a new type of fun and easy gestural music-making.
