Mark Mosher: My First Solo Flight with Space Palette

November 18, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · 1 Comment

Mark Mosher explores Space Palette, details below:

Tim Thompson flew out from San Jose to present on his Space Palette kinect-based casual instrument this week Boulder Synthesizer Meetup (meetup.com/The-Boulder-Synthesizer-Meetup) on Nov 13th, 2012.

dependent parts and taught me how to launch, calibrate and customize. After he flew home, I tore the system down and put it all back together and got it all running on my own :^). I then swapped out the audio instruments behind the scenes with Absynth patches to make my first solo performance.

I shot this video while holding the camera behind the frame as I played. All audio and visuals are interactive and in response to the Kinect tracking my multi-touch movement (X,Y, Depth) through the various windows in the frame.

Time machine: Sequential Circuits Prophet VS “1986”

November 18, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Time machine: Sequential Circuits Prophet VS “1986”

The Prophet VS uses Vector Synthesis as its revolutionary new means of sound creation. It uses a total of four oscillators per voice with 127 waveforms (32 user) and dynamic waveform crossfading via the joystick. This was Sequential’s first digital synth, and it was also their final synth unfortunately. But after Sequential was gone, Vector Synthesis technology went into the popular Korg Wavestation and Yamaha’s SY-22 and TG-33.

Discovering Samplr for iPad, with Jordan Rudess

“I was surprised when I saw this app because it uses the idea i had to actually play on the waveform like we did in my app SampleWiz. It also takes it to another dimension by adding some great features including recording!”

Euro bow interface prototype

November 17, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Euro bow interface prototype

Peter Speer demonstrates his DIY Euro Bow Interface – a unique bowed string instrument he uses with his Eurorack modular synthesizer.

Technical details below.

Hollow laser cut MDF enclosure, with a guitar string pulled across two zither pins and a contact mic underneath (connected to the front jack).

Bow is homemade, too (2×4 + horsehair).

Pressure Points and the Wogglebug’s Stepped Out (triggered by the Pressure Points) are controlling the frequency on the DPO, as well as the pitch shift on the Echophon. The envelope out from an A-119 is opening the low pass gate on the output and controlling the modulation index on the DPO.

Controllerism: MOLDOVER – NOT YOUR MIRROR

November 17, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Controllerism: MOLDOVER – NOT YOUR MIRROR

Background description:

We had Moldover “The Godfather of Controllerism” stop by Knocksville while he was on his SuperVillain Fall Tour and asked him to perform for us an exclusive unreleased song. Be on the lookout for his upcoming album it’s going to be unlike any of his past projects. Evolution is a beautiful cycle.

Both the guitar and mic controllers are prototypes I made for my recently completed Super Villain Tour. The microphone attachment is called The Mojito. It’s simply eight arcade buttons built onto a steel clamp that I use to control vocal effects. The guitar is an instrument I’m developing with Visionary Instruments named The RoboCaster (after a well known cyborg/guitar). It’s got every sensor I thought might be cool to have on there including accelerometers, an infrared emitter-detector, and a keyboard mod-wheel. This video highlights how I’ve mapped arcade buttons and a joystick to different intervals on a pitch shifter. Both controllers are tons of fun to play and have forced me to seriously re-approach how I play and sing.

The software I’m using is is Live, Max4Live & [Native Instruments] Guitar Rig. The song Not Your Mirror is from my forthcoming album FourTrack (kickstarter coming soon!). Grady Shon produced the video with help from Ben Shim & KnockSteady crew.

The ever inventing Jordan Rudess (Dream Theatre) is exploring his own apps, details below:

A fun look at the apps created by Wizdom Music.
Our website is: http://www.wizdommusic.com/
You can now follow us on twitter at @wizdommusicapps
The keyboard I’m using is IK Multimedia’s iRig keyboard.
It plugs directly into my iOS devices and does not need additional power or a midi interface! Also I used the awesome Looptastic app by Soundtrends for some backing track help.
