Minisynth series – new collection of three instruments from the KVR challenge
Acrobatics has released the Minisynth series, a collection of three instruments: FRET, GRIT and PEAK.
As an overall concept, Acrobatics simplified controls and packed implementations to the highest grade to push-up users creativity first and give steady look and maximum usability to the three polyphonic synthesizers.
WHY A COLLECTION?
Common look and feel and standardized location of knobs and switches goes in the direction of helping musician when in a busy musical work, when certainly requires fast access to basic synthesis controls and settings to fit in the mix. The Minisynth series collection is also suitable for educational purpouses for its separate interpretations of most important synthesis methods and applications.
The Minisynth series for Windows (VST) is available as freeware as part of the KVR Developer Challenge 2012.
MacBeth – prototype of a hardware instrument with its own touch keyboard built in
Modular synthesis maestro Ken MacBeth, has revealed this yet-unnamed instrument on Facebook this weekend. Of the new design, MacBeth says that it has “four oscillators, two noise generators, one LFO, a dual stage variable filter, four envelope generators, two VCAs (Stereo) and a stereo tape delay”.
It seems that this synth is something that Ken has had in mind for a while, too: “It’s been a long term development over years,” he says. “The micromac series has been designed for those who wish for the vintage ‘Moog-like’ sound – this is a completely different design!”
No news on when we can expect the synth to come to market, but SBC will be monitoring its progress.

Reaktor ensemble effect – Particle of God
Max Pfetscher let us know about a free Reaktor ensemble effect, Particle of God, that he created as part of KVR’s 2012 Developer Contest. Particle Of God is an ensemble effect for Native Instruments Reaktor. The idea behind this effect is to create a delay where the delay time is accelerated. The single delays are getting faster (or even slower) for each time the delay is repeated. To get a “musical” result, the delay time and also the delay acceleration is synchronized in time and tempo.
Several parameters can be changed in real-time an tweaked by the step-sequencers. There is also an template for hexler touchOSC available.
“This is sort of another audio mangler that I am testing. It is by Noizefield Instruments and it is named Particle Of God. Again, and probably always, I got it free from the KVR Audio site. I would give it a 5 out of 5 voting points but the KVR Audio Developer Challenge 2012 rules say us members can give 5 out of 5 points votes one time only and I have already done so with the Boids plugin by ToneCarver. So, I am forced to give it a 4 out of 5. There are about 50 other free plugins to vote on and we can only vote a total of 5 times.”
Advance Mobile Drummer – new drum machine app for the iPad
Beats ‘n’ Bobs has introduced Advance Mobile Drummer – a drum machine app for the iPad.
Here’s what they have to say about it:
If you are a guitarist or vocalist who needs a backing rhythm or perhaps your drummer has been abducted by aliens or blown up and you need a replacement-this could be just what you need!
Features:
- Acoustic and electronic sounds.
- Real-time record or step record. Create up to 32 patterns and 8 songs using 5 tracks.
- Adjust pitch, level and decay on each drum pad or drum step and control these settings over time as part of your pattern. You are not limited to just one sound per track as each step can have its own sound.
- You can also adjust levels of swing from 0 to 7 (extreme).
- Auto track assigns each pad to a track automatically.
- Store 4 drum kit programs for the drum pads independently from patterns.
- 5 Drum pads for live play, overdubbing or recording
- Real-time triggering of patterns.
MIDI support appears to be missing in action.
Müscale – jam with Intellijel uscale V2
First jam with Intellijel uscale V2. All sounds live from modular synth (through Korg A2). Drums: Minispillage 2 (pre Elecktroid)
Casio HZ-600 Bi-Timbral Spectrum Dynamic Synthesizer check out
The Casio HZ-600 is the “professional” version of the HT series keyboard synthesizers.
“Checking out the basic features of the Casio HZ-600 synthesizer. All keys and buttons work properly. MIDI IN and OUT also work as demonstrated along with Roland Fantom X6. A little bit of reverb added to the Casio with help of the X6.”

Checking out the Roland MKS-70
Here we have a demo from the Roland MKS 70. It’s also known as the rackmount version of the JX-10. The bassdrum was made with the Jupiter 4. As always a multitrack recording + effects.
The MKS-70 is an identical rackmount version of the JX-10 synthesizer. Released in 1985 it combines two individual JX-8P synth engines for an outstanding warm and analog sound which is used in many modern studios all over the world. It comes with onboard effects like Chorus and Delay and offers a wider range of programming using the optional PG-800 Programmer. This programmer is highly recommended for those who will be programming unique sounds since editing from the rack-face itself is cumbersome and tedious. The MKS-70 has a “chase-play” function which allows programmable delayed repeats of voices from either of its tone modules. The chorus is either off, slow or fast.
