MOOG SOUND LAB (Moogfest Edition): Mutemath – Allies
Mutemath came into the Moog factory to record a Moog Sound Lab Session and reinvent “Allies” from their 2011 LP “Odd Soul” before their Asheville show last March.
Darren opens the song with the Trap-Kat triggering 3 Minimoog Voyager Rack Mounts through an MF-104Z Analog Delay while masterfully manipulating the Time and Feedback knobs throughout the song with one hand, and drumming with his right hand the whole time.
Roy plays his own Minimoog Voyager Select Series through a fuzz box and carries the song with solid bass lines, opening and closing the Filter Cutoff during each chorus.
Paul is singing through an MF-104Z Analog Delay for some vocal slapback and uses a Minimoog Voyager XL to control Animoog for polyphonic pads and lead lines.
Those lead lines are mirrored by Todd, who plays the Little Phatty Stage II through an MF-104Z Analog Delay, playing soft arpeggiated tones to round out the song.

Minitaur Revolution 2 – adding presets, assignable CVs and updated editor
Moog Product Development Specialist, Amos Gaynes, introduces Minitaur Revolution 2. REV 2 adds localy stored presets, assignable CV, CV to Midi conversion as well as an update to the Minitaur editor/librarian.
Minitaur REV 2 owners can now create up to 100 presets and store them directly within their Minitaur. Presets are managed from within the free Editor/Librarian software and can be conveniently recalled from the Minitaur’s front panel controls.
Also in REV 2, a new operational mode for the Decay/Release knob provides users independent control of Decay and Release times from Minitaur’s front panel. Users can easily switch between this new mode and Minitaur’s legacy mode from the front panel.
In addition, Minitaur’s CV and Gate inputs are now assignable from the Minitaur Editor/Librarian software. The Pitch and Mod CV inputs can be routed to any function, while the Gate input can be routed to functions with on/off behavior. REV 2 also enables Minitaur to effectively function as an intuitive CV to MIDI converter.

Life’s not all grim! Touch keyboards are real fun and they make you think in a completely different way about keyboard playing- odd at first- but the technique starts to change and grow. Here is me playing the MacBeth micromac-r unit and the olde ‘vaporware’ protoype unit with the mere 1 octave prototype job. To your right the planned three octave controller- now with now stylus, earthing yourself to ground or anything like that-0 it’s now ‘touch capacitative’ and pure analogue!

Here’s the first video of the research I’m doing at STEIM in Amsterdam. this is a simple analog synthesizer which can be patched and modified using a breadboard interface. The visuals are made by setting my oscilloscope to XY plot mode. The X axis is a triangle wave. The Y axis is a ring modulated signal between the same triangle wave and another triangle wave. There are 5 oscillators total which are all inter-modulated. There’s also a sample&hold in the mix which gives the visuals a stepped appearance which you can see once in a while.

Polymoog 203a Vintage Analog Synthesizer

Recorded / improvised with my Roland CR-68 (Compu Rhythm) on minimal setting.
From the Polymoog I had the direct output and resonator outputs fed into my Behringer mixer while the VCF output was fed into my Ibanez UE 305 with Analog Chorus,Delay and Compressor all engaged and output back into my cruddy mixer.
I was obviously tweaking the sound in spots… Most notably the VCF Cutoff and sometimes S/H rate etc. Towards the end, or somewhere in the middle I brought down the release for a more plucky sound while the lower half of the Polymoog had a bit more sustain… Unfortunately I recorded this to digital (Tascam DP01FX) It sounded much nicer through my Tascam 688 Cassette 8-track but then I couldn’t transfer it to this media from there. Also, my Polymoog is only offering out Square waves at this time or else it would have sounded even way more complex and OTHERWORLDLY!!!
I have a feeling the Blondie and Gary Numan mostly used just Squarewaves anyway for their string sound… Though ealy 70’s Ultravox relied more heavily on the deeper and fat sounding Polymoog sawtooth waveforms…
