Plughugger brings you Nerd Electro

January 20, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Plughugger brings you Nerd Electro

Plughugger has announced the release of Nerd Electro, a new loop and sample library in Kontakt 3, SFZ, Reason and WAV formats.

Before house, acid, techno and trance – there was a magical world often referred as ‘the 80s’. In the eighties the unicorns roamed free on the streets and people had hairstyles that defied style, sense and gravity. Before house – and particularly the nasty acid house – came and destroyed everything, and made everybody so incredibly hip, life was cute, poppy and quite naive.

Nerd Electro is the Plughugger take on the eighties, when synthesizers were expensive as hell, weighted a ton, were impossible to program, and sounded just slightly better than the keyboards for Very Small Children.

Nerd Electro features

  • Nerd Electro is built around ten construction kits that includes loops, individual sounds and ready to go sampled instruments.
  • All loops have a fixed tempo of 128 BPM.
  • All drums both come as complete loops and individual stems.
  • If a sound source is heavily processed, it also comes dry (if it makes sense).
  • Everything was originally created in 24 bits and later resampled and dithered down to 16 bit.
  • The Kontakt versions of the sounds comes with a special interface for quick editing of the most common parameters.
  • Formats: Kontakt 3, Reason, SFZ and WAV.

Nerd Electro is available to purchase for €9.90 EUR.

TheDrumSource – virtual drum machine instrument

January 16, 2011 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on TheDrumSource – virtual drum machine instrument

Ola Wistedt and Mats Lindfors have released version 1.0 (release candidate 1) of TheDrumSource, a sample based drum machine instrument for Windows.

It has a sequencer and a built in sample browser. It looks and “feels” like a classic (x0x) hardware drum machine.

TheDrumSource is designed with the purpose to be very simple and easy to work with even if you are used to work with hardware drum machines or not. The built in sample browser in TheDrumsource makes it very easy to navigate through your samples. The sequencer can be running when looking for new samples. You will hear the sample the moment you selects it. There is also a quick button to select the previous and next sample in the same directory as the current selected sample. TheDrumsource has a very short time to get started on making your beats.

TheDrumSource features

  • Built in sample browser suited for a easy workflow when working with samples. And almost all of TheDrumSource’s functions is still available while browsing.
  • Built in sequencer that has 24 sequences for your patterns. The patterns are of the 16-step bar type
  • Support for many sample formats (including 24 bit samples): WAV, AIFF, AIFC, AU, SND, RAW, PAF, IFF, SVX, SF, VOC, W64, MAT4, MAT5, PVF, XI, HTK, CAF, SD2, FLAC, OGG.
  • A GUI that can be resized to suit you screen.
  • A quick button to change the next and previous sample in current directory of the selected sample.
  • A stereo output channel for each drum. And a mode to mix down all channels temporary into one stereo channel for quick tests to get you up and running a little bit faster on some hosts.
  • The SYNC mode. The sequencer is synced by the host (DAW) and you control which of the 24 track to be played with MIDI (octave 2 and 3).
  • The MIDI mode. The samples can be played through midi keyboard (octave 1) with the sequencer turned off.
  • The RUN mode. Lets you play around with the TheDrumsource sequencer when your host (DAW) is not running.
  • Clean interface so you don’t get distracted in your creative work. TheDrumsource uses context menus to make this possible.

TheDrumSource is available to download as a free VST instrument plug-in for Windows.

Capture the characteristics of the legendary EDP Wasp synthesizer

December 30, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Capture the characteristics of the legendary EDP Wasp synthesizer

Vespine is a free sound a Micropack from Puremagnetik that includes over 30 expertly tailored programs that fully capture the characteristic charm of the legendary EDP Wasp synthesizer. Owners of Ableton Live 8.2.1, Kontakt 3.5 or Logic 8 can load up an arsenal of sounds derived from the classic analog hardware. Get the Vespine Micropak now from http://www.puremagnetik.com/…

The Wasp is a quirky little synthesizer that, despite its toyish look, is quite capable of funky analog sounds. It really is black and yellow too, just like the insect it is named for. Probably its most distinguishing feature is the keyboard and its non-moving touch-sensitive keys. That’s right, the flat little keys are only sensitive to your electro-static touch. It’s a nifty technology for 1978, but in reality they are difficult and unreliable to play. The WASP is powered by two digital oscillators supported by analog filters, envelopes and controls. This makes it one of the earliest digital/analog hybrid synthesizers to come in such a compact package, and it sounds great! The Wasp offers flexible and traditional synthesis of cool bass, synth, and other classic monophonic sounds. Its designer, Chris Hugget, also designed the Oxford Synthesizer Company’s OSCar Synthesizer. The Wasp has been used by 808 State, Dave Holmes, Vince Clarke, WhiteHouse and Add N to (X).

Vespine comes packed with a variety of programs that fully exhibit the characteristic sound of the Electric Dream Plant’s Wasp synthesizer.

Vespine Features:

• Close to 600 hi quality 24-bit multi-samples
• Programmed with modern sampler features for voice layering & polyphony variations
• Live version includes over 30 expertly designed rack instruments
• Kontakt version includes native Kontakt effects and a custom KSP GUI for easy editing

Cool sfx collections – space, rock and creek

December 30, 2010 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Cool sfx collections – space, rock and creek

New Sound Lab is an independent sound library site created by Tor Johnson. The library features field recordings from Southern California. From nature to metropolis, Tor’s goal is to have a wide variety of high quality, usable sound packages fit for any sound designer’s collection. All releases are recorded in either 96khz or 192khz using a Sanken CSS-5 microphone and Sound Devices 702 recorder. Photos of recording locations, GPS coordinates and other meta data are included.

There are three sfx collections already available on the site:

  • Space Echo 201 ($25) – Features 75 WAV files (1.01GB) recorded from a RE-201 processor. The samples are collected from the space echo self oscillation, as well the triggered delay from various sound sources. Use these samples for the classic Space Echo sound or chop up and manipulate them for new sound creation/design.
  • Rock Slides ($25) – Includes 57 recordings (272MB) of various small rock, pebble, and other debris slides.
  • San Antonio Creek ($25) – Features 32 recordings (1.17GB) of the remote San Antonio creek located in the Angeles National Forest. The creek morphs from almost a trickle at 8,000 feet to a large waterfall below, allowing for a wide range of moving water sounds to be captured.

There’s another library coming soon, called LAX Aircraft, featuring recordings of several airplanes, such as Airbus A330, Boeing 737, 757, 747, and Bombardier 800.
