I will be your only reported sightings of the actual time being this time.
In the event that was held at Shibuya April 18 2013 KORG New Products Showcase Live, new models of analog rhythm machine Korg topic “volca beats” (part PCM sound), analog synth-based “volca bass”, analog synth loop “volca key” became the first Japanese debut. Additional details:

Three true-analog synthesizers with built-in sequencers to generate the ultimate analog leads, basses, and rhythms

Following in the footsteps of the monotron, monotribe, and MS-20 Mini analog synthesizers, Korg announces the Volca series. volca is a new lineup of EDM production tools comprised of three distinct models: the Volca Keys lead synthesizer, the volca Bass synthesizer, and the Volca Beats rhythm machine. These powerful and fun-to-use true-analog devices deliver a diverse array of fat sounds that can be obtained only from an analog synthesizer. Each is also equipped with sequencing/recording capabilities for intuitively generating performances. Multiple volcas can be used in tandem via the vintage-style sync in/out, and with your favorite DAW software or MIDI keyboard via MIDI In. Battery operation and built-in speakers mean that you can conveniently play anywhere and anytime. These are the next-generation analog synthesizers, bringing you the ultimate sounds and grooves with ease and depth. Whether used together or by themselves, the volca series is poised to inject true analog power into any performance or studio setup!

Audulus 2.0

April 20, 2013 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Audulus 2.0

“New features in Audulus 2.0. Many thanks to the Audulus beta testers for their thorough testing of this release!”

With Audulus, you can build synthesizers, design new sounds, or process audio. All with low latency real-time processing suitable for live performance. Audulus’s user interface is clean, simple, and easy to learn, allowing you to focus on sound.

Key Features:

• Fluid Vector Interface – smooth animated interaction
• MIDI control – use your control surface or MIDI keyboard
• Polyphony – process multiple voices
• Diverse Nodes – from ADSR to ZeroCross
• Patch Browser – quickly flip through your patches
• 32-bit floating-point signal processing
• Fully Enhanced for Retina Display
• Unlimited Undo – full history stored in a patch
• Round-trip workflow with Audulus for Mac
• Virtual MIDI – control Audulus from your favorite MIDI app
• NEW: Audiobus support! – Runs as both an Input and Effect!
• NEW: Sub-Patches – group and reuse nodes!

Here’s what’s new:

  • Math Expression node (Math -> Expr). Enter textual math expressions, like “2*x + y +z”. Available as an upgrade, this node has a variety of uses, including: unit conversion, control-signal mapping, wave-shaping or building custom oscillators. It can also be used when doing math with individual nodes is too cumbersome.
  • Timing mode (the little stopwatch button below the lock mode button). This shows timings for all the nodes so you can optimize your patch. This is available as an upgrade.
  • The Oscillator node now has an amplitude input. If the amplitude is zero, the oscillator takes up much less CPU. Synth patches will see a big performance improvement from driving the Osc amplitude with the ADSR.
  • Significant improvement in loading times. Indicate progress while loading.
  • No waiting to close a patch. Patches are saved in the background.
  • Audio engine optimizations. The audio engine now takes various shortcuts when values aren’t changing.
  • Improved responsiveness of the on-screen keyboard.
  • Bug fixes.

Nanoloop (1st version for Nintendo Gameboy) + modified Korg Monotron, both synced by a Roland TR-626. Nanoloop is triggered by the rimshot pattern of the 626. The sawtooth LFO (low frequency oscillator) of the Monotron is triggered by syncuino (http://chemiker1981.blogspot.com/) and the cutoff frequency of the Monotron analog filter is controlled by a sequence generated by Syncuino.

Vo-96 Acoustic Synthesizer – First Impressions

April 19, 2013 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Vo-96 Acoustic Synthesizer – First Impressions

Al Petteway, Richard Smith and Vincent Crow experience the Vo-96 Acoustic Synthesizer for the first time. Experience it for yourself at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/3…

The Vo-96 Acoustic Synthesizer is based on a key invention that enables accurate control of acoustic vibrations. I’m the inventor. My technology was behind the well-known Moog Guitar and the Moog lap steel — instruments based on the same key principle. Since then I’ve been advancing this invention towards its full potential. Now I’m going ahead with the Vo-96 Acoustic Synthesizer. It’s my full ‘inventor’s version’ product and will be produced by my design company Vo Inventions LLC.

The Vo-96 was never intended to be a retail type of product. It is a concept product that takes the technology to the max and demonstrates what’s really possible with acoustic synthesis. It’s the “inventor’s cut” and it leaves nothing out — which makes it impractical to sell through the standard retail channels with their customary price mark-ups. Making the Vo-96 available through Kickstarter allows us to maximize the value to you and provide the most powerful product for the price; and there is simply nothing else available at any price that does what the Vo-96 does.
