“Boost 309 V2” is based on the complete sample set of the vintage, lo-fi but charmingly sounding machine Rave-o-lution 309 by a company named Quasimidi. Soundcells have created 90 brand new combinator drum machines for you with these samples. It all ranges from the old original 309 thing to amazing and unique patches that could have never been created within the 309 itself. Besides cool beats and complex, crazy rhythms Boost 309 will offer you even more!
While closing version 2 of this ReFill we found ourselves putting 200 combinators into this product. Version 2 is a huge update which adds 20 new combinator patches, 40 rex loops making use of our “Boost 309” drum machines and the original (!) Rave-o-lution groovebox, as well as completely redesigned and great looking backdrops…

Laibach a work of art
The Palac Sztuki museum of modern art in Lodz has finally released the catalogue of the Laibach exhibition held in the museum from May 26th until the end of August 2009. The full colour 200 pages catalogue “Ausstellung Labach Kunst Rekapitulacja / Recapitulation 2009” includes selected Laibach visual works from the end of 1970 until today, and separately presents works and installations from the Lodz exhibition. The catalogue also includes the most important manifestos and other Laibach texts, as well as rare photos and documents from the exhibition opening. It presents nine essays, authored by Wiktor Skok, Taras Kermauner, Lev Kreft, Slavoj Zizek, Ales Erjavec, Alexei Monroe, and Eda Cufer. All texts are published in both Polish and English. (…)

Loop Recording can be set for up to four measures /16 beats. Your KAOSSILATOR PRO musical performances can be recorded into one of the Loop Recorder Banks. By adding (overdubbing) additional sounds one at a time, you can create amazing loop phrases by repeating the cycle of selecting a sound, playing a phrase, and recording the sound over and over again.
Four Loop Recording Banks allow DJ-style performances
The KAOSSILATOR PRO provides four Loop Recording Banks. These banks can be combined for virtually infinite performance possibilities. Each of the four loop banks can host infinite overdubs. In addition, each bank can be muted or un-muted, its volume adjusted, and its loop length changed, making dynamic live performances easy for anyone. An unneeded loop can be erased during playback, and a new one recorded, so there’s no need to stop the performance.

Use iPhone to control Reason
dashByte’s dashMIDI (App Store link) is a free iPhone app that enables the control of Propellerhead Reason over a WiFi network.
According to the developers, “If you’ve ever wished that you could start and stop recording without having to run over to your computer, this is the app for you.”
It looks pretty basic, but I guess it could be useful for some of you. If you’ve used dashMIDI for Propellerhead Reason, make sure to tell us what you think about it

Malcolm – may he rest in peace
Malcolm McLaren, the British entrepreneur and musician who’s best known as the founder and ex-manager of the Sex Pistols, died Thursday morning. According to the Independent, the 64-year-old had been battling cancer.
The London native originally got involved in the music business through fashion, starting a clothing store in the city with his partner, Vivienne Westwood. After meeting the New York Dolls on a trip to the US in the early ’70s, McLaren supplied the androgynous punk group with stagewear. After that modest success, his return to London in the middle of the decade changed his life permanently.
The clothing shop, now known as Sex, focused on bondage and S&M fashion and became central to the fledgling punk scene. Through acquaintances, McLaren began managing the Strand, a band that would eventually become the Sex Pistols. The band’s lineup was cemented in 1975 when McLaren’s friend and future Clash manager Bernie Rhodes spotted John Lydon. Intrigued by his fashion sense — he sported green hair and a torn Pink Floyd shirt with “I hate” written above the band’s name — they had him audition for the band, creating Johnny Rotten.
The Sex Pistols released 1977’s ‘God Save the Queen’ during Queen Elizabeth II’s 25th anniversary celebration (aka Silver Jubilee) and to mark the occasion, McLaren planned for the band to perform the single on a boat outside Parliament. The ship was raided, McLaren was arrested and the legend of the Pistols grew, though it would be less than a year before they broke up.
In the following years, McLaren launched a career as a singer, releasing the hip-hop-influenced album ‘Duck Rock’ in 1983, with the songs ‘Buffalo Gals’ and ‘Double Dutch’ both reaching the Top 10 on the UK charts. Around this time, another McLaren-founded band, New Wave act Bow Wow Wow, had a hit with their cover of the ’60s pop song ‘I Want Candy.’ In later years, McLaren collaborated with rappers like KRS-One and had several of his songs sampled by popular artists, including Mariah Carey and Eminem.
“He had been suffering from cancer for some time, but recently had been full of health, which then rapidly deteriorated,” his spokesman, Les Molloy, told the Independent. “He died in New York this morning. We are expecting his body to be brought back to London and buried in Highgate Cemetery.”
“For me, Malc was always entertaining, and I hope you remember that,” Rotten said in a statement. “Above all else he was an entertainer and I will miss him, and so should you.”
I have only bought one record with Malcolm and I still think the songs on that record feels quite fresh:
