Fraunhofer IIS Previews Pro Tools Plug-in From Sonnox For “Mastered For iTunes”

April 18, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Fraunhofer IIS Previews Pro Tools Plug-in From Sonnox For “Mastered For iTunes”

Sonnox and Fraunhofer IIS have announced a new version 2 of the Sonnox Fraunhofer Pro-Codec Plug-in that will come with iTunes Plus codec and multi-channel support. At NAB 2012 in Las Vegas, Fraunhofer IIS is showing a preview of the new version of the  Sonnox Fraunhofer Pro-Codec Plug-in.

For the first time, the plug-in enables mastering engineers to use the iTunes Plus codec for real-time auditioning of their mix. This makes the plug-in a tool to mix directly for the “Mastered for iTunes” program, including clipping detection and the possibility for real-time corrections while mixing. For this new functionality, Sonnox has added the Apple versions of the AAC and HE-AAC codecs to the plug-in so that the exact clipping behaviour of the iTunes encoding chain may be monitored.

In addition, Sonnox and Fraunhofer have integrated the latest surround audio codecs MPEG Surround, AAC multi-channel, and HE-AAC multi-channel. These codecs provide improved audio quality for surround music and are used in surround broadcasting and streaming. Of course, the Sonnox Fraunhofer Pro-Codec still includes Fraunhofer implementations of all major MPEG audio codecs, including mp3, AAC, and HE-AAC as well as lossless codecs such as mp3HD and HD-AAC. This makes the Pro-Codec the most powerful codec plug-in available for digital audio workstations.

The upgrade will be available in July for free for all current users of the Sonnox Fraunhofer Pro-Codec.

Roland RE201 Space Echo

April 17, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Roland RE201 Space Echo

The Roland RE-201 Space Echo is truly a Vintage (1973) piece of music technology with lots of appeal even today. It’s not a synth, but a Tape-Echo machine for creating true analog echo effects. The RE-201 is a simple system in which a small loop of tape records an incoming signal and immediately plays the recorded sound back over a couple playback heads before being erased over by new incoming audio. A real analog system with warm, gritty and almost noiseless operation, the Space Echo can provide warm, unpredictable and highly tweakable echo effects.

There are twelve settings to adjust various tape loop speeds, number of repeats, levels, intensity, etc… It can even generate some of its own feedback loops for instant sci-fi effects. It features a built in spring reverb for even more classic analog effects. The RE-201 not only has Vintage appeal but is still widely used to get those dubby, slightly unpredictable, musically analog echo effects.

Introducing the Wurlitzer library from Acousticsamples

April 17, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Introducing the Wurlitzer library from Acousticsamples

Wurlitzer library from Acousticsamples, it features effects, acoustic and electric volumes, complete control over the velocity parameters, amp simulation and more… Visit Acousticsamples.net/wurlie to purchase it.

Wurlie is a 64 keys Wurlitzer 206A piano, and as the Wurlitzer company named it, a “Student Electronic Piano”.

The 206A is a student model, and is very similar to a 200A except for its beige color and built in amp/speaker (it also did not come with a tremolo). It was designed to be paired with a 206, which is the teacher model and they were mainly used in conservatories. The teacher had a headphone and microphone to be able to listen to each student individually and talk to them without others hearing them.

BeatCleaver – slicing made simple

April 17, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on BeatCleaver – slicing made simple

BeatCleaver is a slicing tool for sampling from songs and cutting up beats. This new 1.2 release adds MP3/M4A support, smooth zooming, a new timeline bar, and more! Check it out at: http://www.oscillicious.com/beatcleaver

Here’s what they have to say about the update:

“With new support for MP3 and AAC formats, sampling from existing songs and recordings has never been easier. DJs can now easily save loops from songs to use with sampler decks and artists can cut samples for remixes and mashups.

The new Advanced Slicing menu facilitates slicing audio by fixed bars or beats, perfect for chopping multi?track exports for live resequencing.”

Additional – Santoni shares info on an open source library that they’ve been working on:

In partnership with Mixxx, the free DJ software, we’ve released an open
source library for decoding compressed audio in a cross-platform way
called “libaudiodecoder”. This library grew out of the common needs of
both projects, and we hope it’ll help other audio developers too.

BeatCleaver now ships with libaudiodecoder for enhanced audio format support.

BeatCleaver 1.2 is available now for US $15 /13 EUR. It’s a free update for existing users.

Zira Demonstration

April 17, 2012 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Zira Demonstration

A quick run through of Zira and it’s features.

A quick summary of it’s features;

  • Two oscillators, each with 48 waveforms
  • One Sub oscillator
  • Hard Sync of oscillators
  • Two ADSRs, one VCF, one VCA
  • One LFO
  • Multiple routing options
  • 64 patch memories
  • MIDI updatable firmware

Background info from Vaco Loco:

Zira came out of an idea I had to see how small I could build a synth and still get it to sound good. The prototype is based on the Korg NJM2069AD Filter/VCA chip, the reason for this being I had 8 lying around I bought a while back from Korg to build a polysynth with.

There are a small number of these being made, I will be selling these as fully assembled modules with a case.

However, I fully intend to try and replace the NJM2069AD with a discrete filter and VCA of some kind (currently a 2 pole State Variable Filter based VCF and simple VCA is looking good) and turn this into kits in much the same way as I did with GorF.
