Numerical Sound has announced the release of ReBass Narrow, a Rack Extension for the Reason music production software by Propellerhead Software.

ReBass uses convolution to target bass frequencies with extreme precision, emphasizing just a perfect fifth while leaving the surrounding material untouched.

This means no messing around with endless sweeping and tweaking – just target the range you want from C0-G0 (31-46Hz) to B3-F#4 (233-394Hz) by picking one of the 36 impulses. Each impulse is one semitone higher than the last, so you don’t have to think like an engineer to get a great sound – it’s quick, clear and free of the phasing artifacts and imprecision EQ can introduce.

ReBass Narrow features

  • Extreme precision bandpass, rolling off 110 dB within 1.5 semitones from the target range, only possible through convolution and something that traditional EQs cannot match.
  • 36 impulse organized by starting pitch cover 3 octaves from C0-G0 (31-46Hz) to B3-F#4 (233-394Hz).
  • Audiophile Design: Supports 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 and 192 KHz sample rates, with accurate detail, ultra-low noise floor and utmost transparency.
  • Easy to Use Controls: Impulse List, Stereo Width, Gain, Pan and Dry/Wet controls make it easy to mix and shape the bass.
  • Smooth CV based automation can be used Stereo.
  • Width, Gain, Pan and Dry/Wet to creatively change your sound.

ReBass Narrow is available to purchase for 55 EUR.

Joy Division appears in a new free browser game

June 5, 2013 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Joy Division appears in a new free browser game

june04012013

Jean-Marc Lederman has posted on Facebook about a game based on the Joy Division classic “Love Will Tear Us Apart”. The game is created by Gordon Calleja and is a free-to-play browser-game about relationships on the brink of breaking up. Here’s what the page says it in ‘about’ section: “Will Love Tear Us Apart? is a free-to-play browser-game about relationships on the brink of breaking up. It is inspired by Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart and follows the song in delivering a dark and frustrating perspective on love. (…) WLTUA encourages players to reflect on the darker side of love: mis-communication, emotional impasse and the sadness of separation. Solace may be found in the brief moment of lightness that comes over us when we come to terms with the reality of an irreconcilable relationship.”

And as a nice extra, each verse in the song is represented by a level in the game.

The initial design was developed with Mighty Box Games, an independent indie game studio based in Malta, with a collaborative group of visual artists from Malta and Italy. The project received funding through the Malta Arts Fund. Lightning struck early in the project, with a wrist injury forcing the original artist, Steffi, to leave the project. But the all-Maltese team of Gordon, Marvin, Fabrizio, Thom, Mark, and Costantino (an Italian infiltrator), regrouped around visual artists Anthony and Nel to move forward with the project.

“Will Love Tear Us Apart” is a free to play game inspired by English post punk band Joy Division that puts you through the dramatic journey of a relationship on the brink of breaking up.

Audulus 2.1 is here

June 5, 2013 · Posted in Uncategorized · Comments Off on Audulus 2.1 is here

Subatomic Software has announced the release of Audulus 2.1 for iPad and Mac. This update to the modular music processing app adds support for JACK on iPad, as well as five new nodes for both iPad and Mac versions.

JACK for iOS is a free app that allows JACK-compatible apps such as Audulus to be connected in any way, with the only restriction being CPU power.

“JACK is a mature, powerful inter-app audio system,” explains Audulus developer W. Taylor Holliday. “It’s great to see it ported to iOS.”

Audulus 2.1 introduces the Poly Pack, an In-App-Purchase upgrade consisting of four new nodes which facilitate stereo and quadraphonic processing of audio input. Audulus nodes can process multiple channels of audio.

“Previously, the only way to generate a polyphonic signal in Audulus was via the Keyboard node in Poly Mode,” explains Holliday. “Now, you can do polyphonic processing of audio input. You can even use the QuadToMono node to apply separate processing chains to each voice of a synth.”

“I’m not aware of another app on iOS that gives you this fine-grained control of multi-channel processing,” adds Holliday.

Version 2.1 also adds a phasor node (not to be confused with the phaser effect), which outputs a phase angle suitable for driving custom oscillators.

Audulus development is user-driven, and these new features were requested by users on the Audulus forum.

Audulus for iPad is available on the App Store for $9.99, 30% off for the remainder of June to celebrate JACK support.

Audulus for Mac is available on the Mac App Store for $29.99.
